About The Company
Founded in Wirral in 1968 by a group of concerned parents, the organisation currently employs more than 900 staff, supporting over 400 adults and many more families, through services across Wirral and Cheshire.
The charity provides residential care, supported living, day services, advice and support, along with specialist autism training. Autism Together also has two farms, a woodland, three cafés, and a rock band led by the people we support.
Autism is a lifelong condition, which affects each person uniquely. It can affect a person’s ability to form relationships, to communicate, and to understand the world around them.
Autism Together aims to provide an exceptional service to autistic people, using collaboration and experience to improve their skills and opportunities, and build brighter futures for every person we support.
Company Culture
The majority of our autism services are based in locations across Wirral, and around 87% of our staff live in Wirral too.
Our charity’s Mission is to help autistic people develop to their full potential, while educating and developing the community around them.
The autistic adults our staff support learn diverse skills and join in a wide range of activities such as swimming, cycling, and trampolining, accessing their local communities and enjoying days out. They have the opportunity to express themselves through art, music, photography, and animation. We even have a series of podcasts created and recorded by the people we support.
This ties in with Our Values, which are:
- Be Person-Centred – we recognise that each person has the right to live their life as they determine, treating each individual as the ultimate expert in their own autism.
Promote Learning – we focus on lifelong skill development and adapting strategies to suit individual thinking patterns and sensory needs.
Positive Communication – we recognise that all behavior is a form of communication, so we tailor communication and support to suit the needs of each person we support.
Be Respectful – we respect each person’s choices and preferences, while helping individuals develop to their full potential without judgment or unnecessary limitations.
Community Connection – we seek to improve autism awareness, understanding, and acceptance, encouraging the people we support to access and be a part of their local communities
