Specialty Registrar in General Surgery (Upper GI)
A Specialty Registrar position has become available within the General Surgery and Upper Gastrointestinal (Upper GI) Department at Ealing Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking department at a time of service expansion, including the introduction and development of robotic surgery. The department also benefits from well-established research platforms in Upper GI surgery, providing excellent opportunities for the successful candidate to develop both their clinical and academic surgical career.
Key Responsibilities
Provide high-quality clinical care to surgical patients in both emergency and elective settings.
Participate in the full shift rota, including on-call duties, and contribute to ward rounds, outpatient clinics, weekly theatre lists, and multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.
Undertake the assessment, diagnosis, investigation, and management of patients presenting with surgical conditions.
Support and contribute to the education, training, and supervision of junior medical staff and undergraduate medical students.
Actively participate in clinical audit, research, and quality improvement initiatives within the department, and contribute to regular departmental activities, including mortality and morbidity meetings and journal clubs.
Maintain a commitment to continuing professional development (CPD) and ensure compliance with Trust policies, clinical governance standards, and national guidelines.

Perform and assist in surgical procedures, including pre-operative assessment, intra-operative management, and post-operative care.
Undertake the assessment, investigation, diagnosis, and management of patients presenting with a wide range of surgical conditions.
Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, providing guidance, feedback, and support for their professional development.
Contribute to the education and training of medical students, junior doctors, and other healthcare professionals within the Trust.
Actively participate in clinical audit, research, and quality improvement initiatives, as well as departmental activities including morbidity and mortality meetings and journal clubs.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with Trust standards.
Demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development (CPD) and compliance with Trust policies, clinical governance frameworks, and national standards.
