Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable, skilled, and proactive Maintenance person to join our care home team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring our building, equipment, and grounds are maintained to a high standard, providing a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for our residents, visitors, and staff.
This role requires a practical individual with excellent problem-solving skills, a good understanding of building maintenance, and a commitment to health and safety. The successful candidate will work closely with the Home Manager to ensure the home remains fully operational and compliant with relevant regulations.
Duties
- Carry out routine inspections and planned preventative maintenance throughout the care home.
- Perform general repairs including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, decorating, and building maintenance.
- Maintain heating, lighting, ventilation, and water systems, reporting any specialist repairs where required.
- Conduct regular health and safety checks, including fire safety equipment, emergency lighting, water temperature monitoring, and legionella control procedures.
- Ensure all maintenance work complies with health and safety regulations and care sector standards.
- Liaise with approved contractors and supervise their work when on site.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from residents and staff.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, compliance checks, servicing schedules, and repairs.
- Monitor stock levels of maintenance supplies and assist with ordering materials when required.
- Support the Home Manager in ensuring the building remains compliant with statutory regulations and inspections.
- Promote a safe, clean, and comfortable environment that enhances residents' wellbeing and quality of life.
Experience
- Good practical knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, decorating, and general repairs.
- Understanding of health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
- Experience working within a care home, healthcare, hospitality, or residential setting is desirable but not essential.
- Ability to identify maintenance issues and arrange specialist contractors when necessary.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
- Good communication skills with a friendly, professional approach towards residents, relatives, visitors, contractors, and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic IT skills for maintaining maintenance records are desirable.
- A commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality, and promoting the dignity and wellbeing of older people.
