Summary
Working Electrical Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and hands-on delivery of electrical services and maintenance, installation, testing, inspection and repair services across a portfolio of social housing properties. The role combines technical expertise with day-to-day leadership, ensuring all works are completed safely, efficiently and in full compliance with statutory regulations, industry standards and contractual requirements.
In addition to general electrical works the role oversees the installation, maintenance, fault diagnosis, testing, and repair of door entry and access control systems, warden call and telecare systems, lightning protection, ventilation systems, and active fire alarm systems, AOV’s, smoke ventilation, dry risers, wet risers, sprinklers within occupied and communal residential buildings. The Working Electrical Supervisor ensures these life safety and security systems remain fully operational, compliant and responsive to residents' needs.
The role involves supervising electricians and specialist engineers, undertaking complex technical works where required, planning and coordinating workloads, monitoring quality and productivity, and ensuring compliance with BS 7671 Wiring Regulations, relevant British Standards, fire safety legislation and health and safety requirements. The supervisor is responsible for reviewing certification, maintaining accurate compliance records, and supporting statutory inspection and testing programmes.
Working closely with residents, housing officers, clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders. The Working Electrical Supervisor will promote excellent customer service while minimise disruption to occupied homes. The role is key to delivering compliant, safe, reliable, and high-quality electrical and life safety services that protect residents, whilst maintaining compliance, and support the effective management of social housing assets.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, coordinate and actively participate in the delivery of electrical installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, fault diagnosis, repairs and planned improvement works across occupied and void residential properties, communal areas, sheltered housing schemes and supported accommodation.
- Provide day-to-day leadership to electricians, apprentices and subcontract engineers responsible for electrical, door entry, access control, warden call, telecare, ventilation systems and active fire systems.
- Plan and allocate resources to ensure responsive repairs, cyclical maintenance, compliance inspections and capital works are delivered safely, efficiently and within agreed service standards.
- Monitor workforce performance, productivity, attendance and technical competency, identifying training and development requirements where appropriate.
- Support recruitment, induction, mentoring and performance management of all personnel.
Experience
- Significant post-qualification experience working within electrical installation, maintenance and inspection.
- Experience supervising electricians or multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
- Experience carrying out inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations.
- Experience managing planned, reactive and compliance maintenance programmes.
- Experience working within occupied residential properties.
- Experience supervising electrical remedial works arising from EICRs.
- Experience reviewing electrical certification and compliance documentation.
Qualifications & Licences
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Installation.
- City & Guilds 2360, 2330 or equivalent electrical qualification.
- City & Guilds 2391, 2394/2395 or equivalent Inspection and Testing qualification.
- Current 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
- ECS Gold Card or equivalent recognised industry registration.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
