Portfolio Energy Manager
Site: George Yard
Hours: Monday - Friday 08:30 - 17:00
The Portfolio Energy Manager is a core member of the JBS Energy Team, reporting directly to the Head of Energy. The team manages energy performance across a portfolio of 110+ commercial and residential sites, with a focus on reducing energy consumption, carbon emissions and costs for our clients.
You will take ownership of a defined number of sites, leading on energy monitoring, analysis and improvement initiatives. A significant part of this role involves working with smart building technology and data analytics platforms to identify and action opportunities, set up automated rules and alarms, and translate data insight into real building improvements.
You will work closely with site teams, account managers and clients, and are expected to be proactive, self-motivated and able to manage your time independently. The role is based at the Building Performance Centre at head office and involves regular site visits across the portfolio.
Take ownership of energy performance across allocated sites, monitoring consumption against baselines and targets
- Carry out regular energy performance analysis and benchmarking using available metering data
- Support the rollout of the Apprise meter reading app, ensuring main incoming electricity, gas and water meters are set up and site teams trained
- Carry out energy monitoring, targeting and validation in line with best practice
- Establish and maintain benchmark loads across your portfolio
- Conduct Level 1 & 2 energy audits across allocated sites, identifying and documenting energy saving opportunities
- Build strong working relationships with site teams, FM managers and clients to support a collaborative approach to energy management
- Carry out out-of-hours site visits where required to identify energy saving initiatives
- Review lease agreements and descriptions of operation to understand plant run time requirements and building constraints
- Assess vacant space, occupancy patterns and footfall to inform energy strategies
- Review BMS time schedules and set points against descriptions of operation, recommending and implementing improvements
- Identify opportunities for additional time schedules to reflect current occupancy patterns, including hybrid working profiles
- Dial in remotely to BMS systems where access is available to monitor efficient plant operation and investigate faults
- Establish and maintain a register of BMS details, remote access credentials and DesOps across your portfolio
- Review O&M documentation and commissioning data to assess building performance gaps
This is a central part of the role. We expect the successful candidate to be comfortable working with data analytics platforms day to day, not just reviewing outputs but actively configuring and managing them.
- Take ownership of data analytics platform setup and configuration across allocated sites
- Build and maintain a library of rules, alarms and automated alerts to identify anomalies, out-of-hours consumption, plant inefficiencies and demand spikes
- Actively monitor and action platform alerts, investigating root causes and working with site teams and BMS contractors to resolve issues
- Review and act on platform-generated recommendations, tracking outcomes and reporting savings delivered
- Familiarise yourself with any data analytics tools already in use at client sites and integrate these into your monitoring approach
- Support the evaluation and configuration of new smart building platforms as the portfolio evolves
- Conduct IoT device reviews across sites, identifying opportunities to enhance data capture and monitoring capability
- Establish the extent of smart metering and AMR installations across allocated sites, identifying gaps and opportunities
- Ensure all main incoming electricity, gas and water meters are producing reliable data and feeding correctly into Apprise
- Identify and progress opportunities for sub-metering installations to improve data granularity
- Survey smart meter provision in accordance with CIBSE TM39 and provide recommendations
- Project manage meter installations by recognised sub-contractors, overseeing commissioning and data capture
- Contribute to monthly energy reports for clients, providing clear commentary on performance, anomalies and recommendations
- Present energy saving initiatives and platform-identified opportunities to clients and account managers
- Respond to client energy queries and ESG data requests in a timely and professional manner
- Support the production of portfolio-wide energy comparators and performance summaries
- Maintain awareness of relevant energy legislation and compliance obligations including ESOS, SECR and MEES
- Support NABERS UK, BREEAM In-Use and other certification processes where required across the portfolio
- Contribute to the development of client energy intensity targets and reduction strategies
- Identify procurement and commercial opportunities to reduce client energy costs

- Demonstrable experience setting up rules, alarms and automated alerts within monitoring platforms
- Experience engaging and building relationships with site teams, FM managers and clients
- Experience producing energy reports and presenting findings to non-technical stakeholders
- Practical experience with HVAC systems and an understanding of how they affect energy performance
- Experience working within an FM or M&E environment
- Experience with smart metering, AMR technologies and sub-metering strategies
