About the role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school and residential setting supporting children and young people diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and associated learning difficulties. Operating on a 38–52-week basis, the school provides both education and care in a nurturing, home-from-home environment.
This is a full-time, term-time role recruited through Advantage Education. The successful candidate will support teaching staff in delivering personalised learning experiences, helping each young person develop confidence, independence, and life skills.
Key responsibilities
- Supporting pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis with their learning and personal development
- Assisting with the delivery of personalised lessons tailored to individual needs and EHCP outcomes
- Helping to facilitate a range of enrichment activities, including arts and crafts, cookery, animal therapy, and community-based learning
- Supporting pupils during therapeutic and sensory sessions
- Encouraging positive behaviour, social interaction, and emotional regulation
- Promoting independence in daily living and life skills, including money handling and practical cooking
- Working collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and senior leaders
- Contributing to the safeguarding and wellbeing of all pupils at all times
About the setting
Pupils benefit from extensive on-site facilities across 28 acres of land, including a theatre, sports hall, climbing wall, swimming pool, dedicated therapy rooms, and an animal therapy area. Learning extends well beyond the classroom, with hands-on experiences designed to build confidence, independence, and a genuine sense of achievement.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Patient, empathetic, and genuinely passionate about supporting young people with autism and additional needs
- Positive, reliable, and committed to a person-centred approach
- Confident working both independently and as part of a wider multidisciplinary team
- An effective communicator and a strong listener
- Adaptable and resilient — no two days are the same in this setting
- Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a car, due to the school's rural location and the community-based nature of the role
Previous experience working with children or young people with autism or learning difficulties is desirable but not essential — full training and ongoing support will be provided to the right candidate.
