Arete Health is expanding its residential childcare services across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire and is looking for passionate, compassionate and resilient Residential Childcare Workers to join our growing team.
We provide high-quality, trauma-informed and therapeutic care for children and young people who may have complex emotional, behavioural, developmental and mental health needs.

The Role
As a Residential Childcare Worker, you will play a key role in providing safe, nurturing and consistent care to children and young people.
You will work as part of a dedicated team to support each young person to develop their independence, emotional wellbeing, confidence and life skills.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing high-quality, child-centred care in line with individual care plans.
- Building positive, trusting and professional relationships with children and young people.
- Supporting young people with their emotional regulation, behaviour and wellbeing.
- Implementing agreed therapeutic and behavioural support strategies.
- Supporting education, hobbies, activities, appointments and community engagement.
- Promoting independence and positive decision-making.
- Maintaining a safe, welcoming and nurturing home environment.
- Supporting young people during periods of distress or emotional dysregulation.
- Responding appropriately to safeguarding and risk concerns.
- Completing accurate daily records, incident reports and other required documentation.
- Working collaboratively with social workers, healthcare professionals, education providers, families and other professionals.
- Participating in team meetings, handovers, supervision and training.
- Supporting the implementation of individual risk assessments, care plans and positive behaviour support plans.
- Maintaining professional boundaries and promoting dignity, respect and confidentiality.

Previous experience in residential childcare, children's services, mental health, education, youth work or social care is desirable but not essential.
We are particularly interested in applicants who have experience supporting children or young people with trauma, emotional dysregulation, ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, attachment difficulties or complex behavioural needs.

Essential Requirements
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare
- Ability to work effectively with children and young people.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting children's welfare.
- Ability to work shifts, including weekends and bank holidays.
- Willingness to undertake relevant training.
- Satisfactory enhanced DBS check and employment references.
- Right to work in the UK.
A full UK driving licence is desirable for some locations but not essential.

Applicants should be able to travel to the relevant Arete Health children's home and work flexibly according to the needs of the service.
