About the Role
We are looking for a reliable, hands-on Immersive Experience Technical Maintenance Technician to support the day-to-day operation of our immersive exhibition.
This freelance role is ideal for someone with strong practical maintenance skills who enjoys troubleshooting technical issues, maintaining visitor-facing environments, and ensuring exhibits remain safe, operational, and presented to the highest standard.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preventative maintenance, minor building repairs, technical troubleshooting, and supporting the smooth operation of immersive technologies and exhibition equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical & Exhibition Maintenance
- Monitor the operational status of all exhibition technologies, fixtures and fittings on a daily basis.
- Diagnose faults and carry out first-line repairs on immersive technologies and associated equipment.
- Liaise with remote technical support to resolve technical issues within agreed response times.
- Complete fault reports and maintenance logs for internal records.
- Organise the shipment of equipment requiring specialist repair.
- Learn and operate the control systems for exhibition technologies where required.
- Building & General Maintenance Carry out general building maintenance both internally and externally.
- Perform basic carpentry tasks including: Hanging and adjusting doors Installing and replacing locks
- Repairing window frames
- Boxing-in works
- Furniture assembly
- Window adjustments
- Carry out minor tiling repairs to walls and floors.
- Replace carpet tiles and undertake basic flooring repairs.
- Replace light bulbs and carry out minor electrical maintenance.
- Inspect the building and exhibition structures, completing minor repairs where appropriate or reporting larger maintenance requirements.
- Preventative Maintenance Conduct routine inspections to identify wear, faults or safety concerns before they become operational issues.
- Ensure all fixtures, fittings and exhibition equipment remain safe, compliant and fully operational.
- Provide guidance to the operations team on best practices to minimise equipment failures.
- Operational Support
- Work closely with the Exhibition Manager and wider operations team.
- Assist with exhibition installations, modifications and special projects as required.
- Maintain stock levels of maintenance supplies and consumables.
- Support the smooth day-to-day running of the exhibition.
Skills & Experience
Essential Minimum 2 years' experience in a maintenance, facilities or technical support role. Strong general DIY and maintenance skills.
- Experience using common hand and power tools safely. Basic knowledge of electrical maintenance. Good fault-finding and troubleshooting abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Practical, proactive approach to problem solving.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Comfortable working at height when replacing lighting or carrying out maintenance.
Desirable
- Experience working in museums, visitor attractions, exhibitions or immersive experiences. Familiarity with audiovisual equipment or interactive technologies.
- Basic IT troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures within public venues.

- Diagnosing and resolving technical faults with immersive equipment.

Contract Terms Contract Type:
Freelance / Self-Employed
Contractor Hours: Variable, typically 10–30 hours per week, depending on operational requirements.
Rates:
Half Day (minimum 5 hours): £100
Full Day Rate: (minimum 10 hours) £250
Work may include weekdays, evenings, weekends and public holidays depending on exhibition requirements.
Reporting To Exhibition Manager
General Responsibilities
The successful contractor will:
- Carry out all work safely and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Complete assigned work to a high professional standard.
- Report issues that may impact visitor experience, health and safety, or business operations promptly.
- Contribute positively to the overall operation and visitor experience of the exhibition.
- Undertake additional duties and special projects that are reasonably related to the role.
