Funeral Director
Location: Wickford, UK
Contract: Full‑time, permanent (44 hours per week, plus on‑call duty) Mon- Fri 8.00-5.00 every other Saturday 9.00-12.00. On-call rota cover required.
Salary: Competitive (£28K - £34K)

Role Overview
Experienced Funeral Director
We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Funeral Director to join our dedicated and professional team.
This is a rewarding position for someone who is passionate about the funeral profession, takes pride in delivering exceptional standards of service, and understands the importance of supporting families during one of the most difficult and emotional times in their lives.
The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge of funeral procedures, care of the deceased and relevant regulatory requirements, together with a calm, respectful and compassionate approach.
Key Responsibilities
· Bringing deceased persons into our care from private homes, care facilities, hospitals and other locations, including out-of-hours and weekends.
· Preparing hearses, limousines and private ambulances for daily operations.
· Acting as a pallbearer at funerals, ensuring the coffin is handled with care, dignity and respect, and working closely with the funeral team to ensure the funeral service runs smoothly and professionally.
· Conducting funerals, leading corteges and coordinating bearers and timings.
· Assisting with coffin preparation, care of the deceased and chapel of rest duties.
· Providing professional, compassionate and respectful support to bereaved families.
· Working effectively as part of a dedicated team to ensure the smooth running of all funeral services.
Essential Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will have:
· Previous experience as a Funeral Director, including experience leading funerals.
· A full UK driving licence.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· A calm and professional manner, particularly when working under pressure.
· The ability to work flexibly, including weekends and an on-call rota.
· Good computer skills and confidence using standard office systems.
· A strong understanding of funeral procedures, professional standards and relevant regulatory requirements.
