General Description:
Skilled work which demands a standard of competence necessitating either an apprenticeship to a trade or recognised
training programme where an employee is required to be fully qualified in all parts of the trade and capable of producing
work to the required standards, specification or finish expected of a craftsman. To perform defined tasks to written
instructions and to be able to work to their own initiative to enable the Depot to provide a quality service to the business.
This role requires an ability to work in both core and non-core trades.
Responsibilities:
- Strip and rebuild circuit boards
- Strip and rebuild electrical motors/generators
- Manufacture cable looms in workshops
- Align electrical motors to electrical generators/alternators
- wiring of low/high tension circuits
- Contactor experience,
- Survey equipment and cables
- Read and understand drawings,
- identify and understand electrical symbols and identify cables
- Identify correct crimp/tools and press to use on cables
- Prepare and crimp terminations using hand and hydraulic crimp tools
- Test electrical installations
- Re-wire main equipment
- Read schematic drawings
- Make up bonding for testing
- Carry out modifications according to procedures
Education Requirements/Person Specification:
- Equivalent to GCSE C and above in Maths and English.
- Apprenticeship/internship in electrical work
- Previous experience in Railway Rolling stock an advantage but not essential
- Have a strong understanding of 5s

- Committed and able to multi-tasking and problem solving skills are essential with the ability to work well under
pressure within tight deadlines.
