Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and dynamic Freelance / Self-Employed Functional Skills Assessor specialising in English and Maths to deliver high-quality assessments to learners. In this role, you will evaluate learners’ proficiency in core functional skills, providing constructive feedback and supporting their progression. This position offers flexibility, allowing you to work independently while making a meaningful impact on learners’ educational journeys. Your expertise will help individuals achieve their goals and enhance their employability or further education prospects.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of learners’ English and Maths skills in accordance with established standards and frameworks
- Prepare learners for assessment sessions by explaining procedures clearly and ensuring they understand the process
- Deliver assessments either remotely or in designated learning environments, maintaining a lively and engaging approach
- Provide detailed feedback on learner performance, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement
- Record assessment outcomes accurately in digital systems, ensuring all documentation is complete and compliant with regulatory requirements
- Support learners through coaching and guidance to help them achieve their qualification goals
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of assessment criteria, curriculum changes, and best practices in functional skills delivery
Qualifications
- Proven experience teaching or assessing English and Maths at functional skills level
- Strong communication skills with the ability to motivate and engage learners effectively
- Knowledge of IT tools used for remote assessments, record keeping, and reporting
- Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple assessments efficiently
- Background or experience in plumbing or related trades is a nice-to-have but not essential
- Ability to explain complex concepts clearly and adapt to diverse learner needs
- Relevant qualifications in teaching, assessing, or training are highly desirable

Pay: £12.71-£25.00 per hour
