Raw Material Trader – Lancaster
Monday to Friday 8:30AM - 5:30 PM
Role Overview:
Wynnstay Group is seeking a commercially driven and relationship-focused Raw Materials Trader to join GrainLink and play a key role in delivering profitable growth across your region.
This is a fast-paced, outward-facing role where you will build and strengthen relationships with local farmers, consumers, and processors, driving first-hand sales and maximising trading opportunities. You will take ownership of trading raw materials profitably across your geographical area, while identifying and developing export and import opportunities that enhance regional and Group performance.
Working collaboratively with other GrainLink offices and wider Wynnstay divisions, you will help maximise Group trading contribution, ensuring seamless communication of trading activity to administration and forwarding teams. With a strong commercial mindset, you will manage credit responsibly, monitor risk, and escalate any concerns that could impact the business.
As a trusted ambassador for Wynnstay, you will combine market insight, commercial acumen, and operational discipline to deliver results - contributing to a well-established, respected agricultural business that is rooted in partnership, performance, and long-term relationships.
Responsibilities:
- To profitably trade a range of raw materials throughout the geographical area, building and developing strong local relationships with local consumers and processors promoting 1 hand sales.
- To lead and develop export/import opportunities presented in your geographical region.
- To liaise with other GrainLink offices to maximise contribution from group trading activities.
- To communicate all necessary trading details to administration and forwarding staff.
- To communicate with other relevant departments and divisions within the Group to ensure the continued smooth running of trading activities
- To prepare reports as required by your line manager and/or the GrainLink Managing Director
- To assist where necessary with compliance and industry audits including environmental issues which may affect the Company, including health and safety.
- To ensure that credit limits are adhered to and updated where necessary.
- To inform senior management of any concerns or irregularities which may jeopardise the operation of the business.
What we’re looking for:
Essential:
- 5 years’ experience in agricultural sales, grain buying, or farm trading.
- Strong understanding of the seed and grain markets.
- Proven track record of building a successful trading record with farmers and developing trusted commercial relationships.
- Deep and current network across suppliers and buyers in animal feed network.
Desirable:
- Agricultural qualification (Degree, HND, or equivalent) is advantageous.
