About the role:
Reporting to the Head of Cheese Operations, the Cheese Production Shift Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and effective day-to-day running of our cheese production and its by-products plants.
Key responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the cheese production, whey and milk reception processes during the assigned shift.
- To be fully conversant with all the cheese production, whey plant and milk reception processes.
- Ensure that production schedules are adhered to and that production goals are met.
- Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure the production of high-quality cheese products.
- Ensure regular dialog with team members to communicate goals, expectations, and updates.
- Maintain the departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) ensuring they are accurate.
- Provide training to new employees and ongoing training to existing staff on production processes, safety procedures, and quality standards in line with SOP’s.
- Carry out on the job employee appraisals in line with SOP’s as required.
- Identify areas for skill development within the team and implement training and re-training programs as needed.
- Based on production plan, ensure that raw materials, equipment, and manpower are available and utilised efficiently during the shift.
- Participate in production planning meetings to communicate shift-specific requirements.
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure that all employees follow safety guidelines.
- Ensure that a high standard of departmental housekeeping is maintained at all times carrying out actions raise by GMP audits.
- Assist with managing departmental KPI’s and where applicable, meet individual KPI’s.
- Ensure that your team maintain accurate production records, including production reports, quality control data, and shift handover documentation where applicable.
- In the absence of the Head of Cheese Production or when designated, attend production, quality, environment and health and safety meetings as required.
Preferable experience & qualifications:
- Applicants must be effective planners with excellent attention to detail
- Applicants should also have a flexible attitude towards carrying out office and hands-on duties and be embracing of change / improved methods of working.
- Applicants must have a sense of responsibility and take pride in their work.
- Proven track record of man management experience gained within a production environment ideally with FMCG.
- Good communication skills and able to liaise with other Management and other areas of manufacturing.
- A sound understanding of a food production plant and equipment from an engineering standpoint, with the ability to assist engineering in the fault finding, repair and development process (desirable).
- Food Safety & Hygiene level 3 (desirable).
- Health and Safety IOSH qualification (desirable).
- Leadership in Management (ILM) level 3 or above (desirable)
- Level 3 HACCP (desirable)
- Good understanding of site BRC, H&S and Environmental systems (desirable)
