Five days out of seven including weekends. Shifts between 6:45am and 7:15pm. Must be 18+ with retail or Post Office experience.
Small store. Big job.
Tills, Post Office counter, deliveries, stock, admin and cleaning - the whole store.
Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and friendly Store Assistant with Post Office Duties to join our team! In this role, you will be the welcoming face of our store, providing excellent customer service while efficiently managing Post Office transactions and retail operations. Your enthusiasm and organisational skills will help create a positive shopping experience for all customers.
What you'll be doing
The Post Office counter
- Mails and parcels, personal and business banking, bill payments, travel money, returns and drop-offs
- Balancing the branch and declaring your cash
- Keeping cash, stock and remittances secure to Post Office standards
The shop floor
- Unlocking for the early trade and locking up at the end of the day
- Serving on the till and keeping the queue moving
- Challenge 25 on age restricted products
- Rotating stock, daily date-code checks, pulling anything out of date
- Filling and facing shelves
- Recording waste and markdowns
- Occasional cash and carry runs to fill a gap or collect a promotion - mileage
- Telling us what's flying out and what's sitting there gathering dust
- Food safety, hygiene and cleaning standards front and back
Admin and paperwork
- Filing and reconciling delivery notes, invoices and credits
- Price changes and till system updates, and keeping shelf-edge labels right
- Preparing banking and keeping cash records straight
- Keeping temperature logs, cleaning records and compliance paperwork up to date and ready to be inspected
Helping us promote the store
- Taking good photos on your phone of what's landed, what's on offer and what looks good - new lines, seasonal ranges, the store itself
- Posting to an agreed weekly rhythm, from a plan
- Keeping an eye on comments and messages and replying promptly, or flagging anything that needs the owner
What makes someone good at this
It's the small things, mostly. You notice the top shelf of the wine is dusty and you wipe it. You spot the milk is short before it runs out. You know which customer takes the Telegraph and which takes the Mail. You come back from a quiet ten minutes with something done - a shelf faced, a photo taken - rather than something scrolled.
What you'll need
- You must be 18 or over. This role involves selling alcohol and other age-restricted products without supervision, holding keys and working alone in the store, so we can't consider under-18s
- Retail experience - convenience, supermarket, or close to it
- Confident, accurate cash handling, and a till record you'd be happy for us to ask a referee about
- Real flexibility across the whole week: any five days out of seven, weekends included, shifts vary from 06:45 starts to 19:15 finishes
- Good with numbers, good with detail and comfortable with paperwork - especially when it's busy
- Confident with social media, and happy to help keep our Facebook and TikTok pages active
- Full UK driving licence, and willing to do the occasional cash and carry run - mileage paid
- Fit enough to handle deliveries, lift stock and be on your feet all shift
- Confident in lone working
- Right to work in the UK, and able to pass the checks required for Post Office counter work
Nice to have - we'll train you on all of it
- Post Office counter experience
- Experience running a business Facebook or Instagram page
- Basic photo or video editing - CapCut, Canva or similar
- Time in a small independent store where you've done a bit of everything
- Goods-in and invoice checking
- Picking app-based delivery orders
- Level 2 Food Safety
- Personal Licence, or willing to get one
What you'll get
- £24,336 a year
- 36 guaranteed hours on a permanent contract
- Mileage paid at HMRC rate per mile for any cash and carry runs
- Staff discount
- 5.6 Weeks holiday
- Workplace pension
Pay: £13.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Company pension
- Employee discount
- Store discount
