The Role
We are looking for a General Maintenance Operative to join our manufacturing team and provide practical maintenance and facilities support across the site.
This is an important role in helping to keep our factory, warehouse, buildings and surrounding areas safe, clean, well maintained and operating efficiently.
The role will undertake a variety of general maintenance, repairs, housekeeping and facilities activities, enabling our Engineering Team to focus on more technical and engineering-critical work.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general repairs and maintenance across the factory, warehouse, offices and site facilities.
- Complete basic planned and reactive maintenance tasks.
- Maintain and repair buildings, doors, gates, fencing, fixtures and fittings.
- Undertake basic plumbing, painting, decorating and general building work.
- Support with repairs and maintenance of site equipment where appropriately trained.
- Assist the Engineering Team with non-technical maintenance activities and general site improvements.
- Maintain external areas, walkways, access routes and work areas.
- Carry out basic grounds and site maintenance when required.
- Identify and report defects, damage, hazards or potential health and safety concerns.
- Respond to maintenance requests and complete jobs within agreed timescales.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and report any outstanding issues.
- Keep work areas clean, safe and organised.
- Follow all company Health & Safety, Food Safety, HACCP and BRCGS requirements.
- Work collaboratively with Production, Warehouse, Engineering and other departments to support the smooth running of the site.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Practical, hands-on and enjoys fixing and improving things.
- Confident using basic hand and power tools.
- Able to work independently and use their own initiative.
- Reliable, organised and able to prioritise competing tasks.
- A good communicator who works well as part of a team.
- Health and safety conscious with a proactive approach to identifying hazards.
- Comfortable working in a busy FMCG manufacturing environment.
- Flexible and willing to undertake a varied range of practical tasks.
- Physically capable of carrying out the practical requirements of the role.
- Willing to learn new skills and develop their knowledge.
Experience & Qualifications
Previous experience in a maintenance, facilities, building, property, grounds maintenance or similar practical role would be advantageous.
Relevant qualifications or experience in areas such as plumbing, carpentry, decorating, mechanical maintenance or general building work would also be beneficial, although full training can be provided for the right candidate.
