About the Role
Workplace health is most effective when potential risks are identified early, health checks are consistent, and employees receive clear guidance before small concerns develop into larger problems.
As an Occupational Health Technician, you will support routine employee health surveillance and workplace wellbeing activities across operational environments. You will carry out approved screening procedures, maintain confidential records, coordinate appointments, and escalate findings that require review by an Occupational Health Nurse or Physician.
The role combines practical health assessments with structured administration. One day may involve completing hearing or lung-function checks for employees working in higher-risk environments, while another could focus on coordinating health surveillance schedules, reviewing outstanding appointments, or preparing information for clinical review.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine occupational health screening under approved protocols.
- Conduct hearing assessments using audiometry equipment.
- Support lung-function testing using spirometry equipment.
- Complete basic vision and health screening where required.
- Record employee measurements and assessment results accurately.
- Maintain confidential occupational health records.
- Coordinate scheduled health-surveillance appointments.
- Identify results requiring escalation to an Occupational Health Nurse or Physician.
- Support new-starter health assessments where appropriate.
- Monitor completion of periodic health surveillance programmes.
- Assist with workplace wellbeing initiatives and health-promotion activities.
- Maintain and prepare screening equipment for scheduled assessments.
- Perform routine equipment checks and report calibration or maintenance issues.
- Follow infection-prevention and hygiene procedures.
- Explain screening procedures clearly to employees before testing.
- Maintain appointment and attendance records.
- Assist with preparing routine occupational health reports.
- Support respiratory, hearing, skin, or vibration-related surveillance programmes where appropriately trained.
- Coordinate with managers regarding outstanding assessments while maintaining medical confidentiality.
- Follow data-protection and clinical confidentiality requirements at all times.
What We Are Looking For
- Previous experience in occupational health, healthcare support, clinical screening, employee wellbeing, or a related environment is preferred.
- Experience performing health checks or diagnostic screening would be advantageous.
- Training in audiometry or spirometry would be beneficial.
- Strong attention to detail when recording clinical information.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with employees.
- Comfortable using electronic health-record or appointment systems.
- Good organisational skills and ability to coordinate recurring appointments.
- Understanding of confidentiality and appropriate handling of health information.
- Ability to follow established clinical protocols consistently.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience within manufacturing, automotive, industrial, healthcare, or other safety-sensitive workplaces would be advantageous.
- Relevant healthcare or occupational health qualifications are beneficial.

Working Approach
You are reassuring without being casual about clinical procedures. You understand that employees may be unfamiliar with health surveillance, so you explain tests clearly, follow the same process consistently, and record results carefully. When something falls outside the expected range, you escalate it appropriately rather than trying to interpret beyond your level of responsibility.
Pay: £28,000.00-£33,000.00 per year
