Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Highways Groundworker to join our team, working on highways and civil engineering projects.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone with solid groundworks and highways experience who is confident carrying out kerbing and tarmac works and operating an excavator. You will be working as part of a site team to complete works safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
Experience working on highways, roads or similar civil engineering projects is strongly preferred.
Duties
- Carry out general highways groundworks and civil engineering works
- Install kerbs, edgings and associated highway infrastructure
- Carry out tarmac/asphalt preparation, laying and reinstatement works
- Excavate and prepare areas for highway and civil engineering works
- Operate an excavator safely and competently
- Carry out trenching, ducting, drainage and backfilling where required
- Prepare sub-bases and surfaces using appropriate materials
- Assist with concrete works and reinstatement
- Work safely around live highways, plant and other site operations
- Follow site plans, instructions and specifications
- Carry out daily checks on plant and equipment where required
- Work effectively as part of a team to ensure works are completed on programme
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised working area
Requirements
- Previous experience as a groundworker, ideally within highways or civil engineering
- Proven experience in kerbing and associated groundworks
- Experience carrying out tarmac/asphalt works and reinstatement
- Competent and experienced excavator operator
- Relevant excavator CPCS or NPORS qualification/ticket
- Valid CSCS card or equivalent
- Good understanding of site health and safety
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable, hardworking and able to work to a high standard
- Full UK driving licence preferred
Additional highways qualifications, including Street Works/NRSWA or other relevant tickets, would be advantageous.
Pay
Pay is negotiable and will be agreed according to experience, qualifications and relevant highways skills.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, understands the standards expected on highways projects and can confidently undertake a range of groundworks as part of an experienced team.
