Senior Legal Counsel - Commercial
Salary: Circa £80,000 – £92,000 + Bonus + Excellent Benefits

About the role
We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Senior Legal Counsel to join our high-performing Legal team.
The NTS Legal Team is a trusted advisor to the Executive, Board and business functions across the organisation. As Senior Legal Counsel, you will provide strategic legal leadership and pragmatic advice across a diverse range of domestic and international activities, helping NTS achieve its commercial objectives while managing legal risk effectively.
This is a varied and influential role, offering exposure to complex commercial projects, governance and compliance matters, stakeholder engagement at the highest levels, and opportunities to support nationally and internationally significant nuclear transport activities.
What you’ll be doing
Providing high-quality, commercially focused legal advice across NTS operations, projects and strategic initiatives
Supporting the General Counsel & Company Secretary in managing legal risk across the business
Developing, implementing and reviewing governance and compliance frameworks across NTS and its subsidiary companies
Advising on corporate governance requirements and monitoring developments in legislation, regulation and best practice
Supporting corporate governance arrangements, including Board and Committee terms of reference
Acting as a trusted business partner to stakeholders across NTS, providing practical and timely legal solutions
Providing legal support for commercial contracts, procurement activities, projects and transactions
Advising on a broad range of matters including commercial law, procurement, employment, intellectual property, information governance, transport, regulatory compliance, litigation and corporate risk management
Supporting procurement teams on Procurement Act 2023 compliance, tender documentation and supplier contracts
Building and maintaining strong relationships across the NDA Group and wider stakeholder community
Supporting negotiations with customers, suppliers and external partners
Identifying legal risks and developing pragmatic solutions to mitigate them
Monitoring legal and regulatory developments and providing training and guidance where required
Acting as a role model within the Legal team, fostering collaboration, resilience and continuous improvement
Supporting the development of a positive culture aligned to the NTS values of Freedom, Helpfulness and Drive
Who we’re looking for
Experience
Significant post-qualification experience (minimum 8 years PQE)
Experience advising on complex commercial contracts and negotiations within an international environment
Experience supporting senior stakeholders and providing legal advice in fast-paced, commercially focused organisations
Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating bespoke contractual arrangements
Experience advising on public procurement matters, including Procurement Act 2023 requirements
Experience working in-house or closely supporting commercial business operations
Experience influencing decision-making at senior leadership level
Desirable:
Experience within regulated industries
Experience advising on transport, maritime, rail or nuclear-related matters
Experience working with government bodies, regulators or public sector organisations
Knowledge
Strong understanding of commercial and contract law
Knowledge of public procurement legislation and governance requirements
Broad legal knowledge across areas such as employment, IP, information governance, competition law and compliance
Understanding of corporate governance principles and best practice
Awareness of legal risk management within complex business environments
Knowledge of regulated sectors and associated legal frameworks
