Sandwell Valley School (SVS) is an independent specialist school providing high-quality education for young people aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We pride ourselves on delivering a trauma-informed, nurturing environment where relationships are at the heart of everything we do.Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and passionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dedicated team.
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HLTA who is confident leading learning across a range of curriculum subjects such as: English, Maths, Science, Food Technology, construction, Art, Kings Trust, functional skills, digital skills, personal development. You will work closely with teaching staff to plan, deliver and assess high-quality lessons, provide targeted interventions and support students to achieve both academically and personally.The successful candidate will be expected to confidently teach classes across the curriculum, covering lessons where required while maintaining high expectations for behaviour, engagement and learning.
Essential Requirements
- HLTA status or equivalent experience.
- Previous experience working within an SEMH school is essential.
- Experience working with students with SEND, ASD or ADHD.
- Experience teaching or leading learning across a range of curriculum subjects.
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
- A sound understanding of trauma-informed practice.
- The ability to build positive, professional relationships with young people who have experienced significant barriers to education.
- Excellent communication, organisation and teamwork skills.
- A flexible and resilient approach to supporting learners with additional needs.
Desirable
- Knowledge of restorative approaches and therapeutic practice.
- Experience delivering interventions to improve literacy, numeracy or emotional regulation.
- Current First Aid or Team Teach/CPI training (or willingness to undertake training).
