PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Representing the Group HSEQ Team across the South West, you will be the instrumental link between our regional businesses and our overarching goal of No Harm Done. Your advice, support, and presence will make a real difference to Managers, Supervisors, and colleagues across Maen Karne in Devon and Cornwall, Building Products in Cornwall, and Stone Supplies in Bristol.
You will support and enable all GRS Group businesses in the South West to exceed their statutory and contractual obligations across a diverse risk landscape - working closely with site teams and management to continually improve health and safety standards. From supporting the investigation of accidents and incidents and implementing the resulting learnings, to ensuring our Integrated Management System remains fully compliant against applicable standards, your role is central to how we operate safely and responsibly. Working in close partnership with the wider Group HSEQ function, you will help drive a consistent, coordinated approach to health, safety, environment, and quality across the region.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties are many and varied, but the list below is considered to be the basic requirement:

Continually lead by example by working and demonstrating the GRS values and No Harm Done vision.

Work with GRS Business Partners to Lead in the delivery of initiatives, guidance and the general management of HSEQ across GRS Group operations in the South West.

Identifying and understand the health, safety, environmental & associated legal requirements that are relevant to the variety work of type across GRS Group operations.

Ensure all site operations comply with health & safety, waste management regulations, planning permission and other legislative requirements.
-
Develop a strong working relationship with all levels of employees, stakeholders and promote a culture of engagement.

Carry out management system audits and inspections and manage a programme of corrective/preventative actions for continuous improvement to ensure the highest standards in technical competence and safe working practices are met; and coordinate ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 audits and support operational teams with any external audits.

Provide coaching, mentoring and support to action owners, and provide authoritative advice on the close out of actions.

Support the Implementation, design, and development of risk management processes, including Risk Assessment, COSHH Assessment, Fire Risk Assessment, CDM Compliance Audits; and any risk management documentation associated with a continually growing and evolving business. Providing internal training and coaching where required.

Development and completion of Statutory Health, Safety and Environment Supplier audits

Lead or support teams in the investigation of accidents and incidents, and in the implementation of resulting recommendations or learning

Undertake fair and objective site HSEQ inspections.

Deliver presentations to Management Teams giving insight into performance, risk management and initiatives.

Provide concise, factual, and accurate information through status reports to the GRS Group HSEQ, ensuring all information is available to enable effective decisions and improvements to be made.

Produce and deliver engaging HSEQ talks for the Group and run and agree schedule of TBT's within the South West area. Attend Group HSQE meetings and share good practice.

Responsibility for compliance and discharging legal duties with regards to HR and Health & Safety to promote a safe, equitable and legally compliant work place.

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO DO THE JOB
Knowledge:

Good knowledge of HSEQ legal compliance.

Behavioural Safety techniques.
-
Excellent knowledge of ISO accreditation for ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & ISO 45001, and auditing.

Excellent working knowledge of HSEQ matters.

Ability to influence people at all levels in a dynamic and fast-moving organization.

Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing.

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Training:
-
Trained auditor or can demonstrate on the job auditing experience.
Qualifications
-
NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent Level 3 Qualification (Essential).

Level 5 / 6 qualification in Health and Safety - (desirable).

CDM related qualification - (desirable).
-
Qualifications in Fire Safety & Fire Risk Assessment - (desirable).

WAMITAB Level 4 Transfer /Treatment Hazardous Waste - (desirable).
Experience:
-
At least 2 years' experience in a full time HSEQ role in a logistics or manufacturing environment.

Practical experience of producing procedures, risk assessments & method statements.
-
Accident/ Investigation training.
-
Experience in issuing, following up and closing corrective actions.

Experience in dealing with external auditors.

Experience in coaching and mentoring.
-
Experience in producing and delivering HSEQ training or learning.
