Graduate Teaching Assistant – Secondary
Location: Hinckley, Leicestershire
Salary: £500–£530 per week, term-time only
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, Monday–Friday, academic year
Are you a graduate looking to gain valuable experience in a secondary school before pursuing a career in teaching?
Step Into Teaching is working with a mainstream secondary school in Hinckley to recruit an enthusiastic Graduate Teaching Assistant to support students across the school.
The role will involve working with students of all abilities, supporting them to access the curriculum, build confidence and achieve their academic potential. You will also provide targeted support to students with additional needs, including learning difficulties, behavioural needs.
The Role
- Support students in the classroom across a range of subjects
- Provide 1:1 and small-group academic support where required
- Help students overcome barriers to learning and improve their academic attainment
- Support students with additional needs to access the curriculum
- Work alongside teachers to deliver targeted interventions and support learning
- Encourage positive behaviour, confidence, independence and engagement
- Build strong relationships with students and act as a positive role model
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers

- A genuine interest in education and helping young people succeed
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to motivate and engage students
- Patience, resilience and a positive attitude
- A commitment to improving both academic outcomes and student confidence
- Previous experience working with young people is desirable but not essential
