Create work people can actually hold in their hands
Shiny Brewery is looking for an experienced, ideas led designer to take creative ownership of our brand and fast-moving product releases. This is a hands on design role at the heart of an independent craft brewery. You’ll create beer can artwork, pump clips, keg badges, merchandise and campaign assets, taking ideas from an initial conversation or sketch through to finished print ready files.
Because we’re independent, good ideas can move quickly. Something you dream up one week could be wrapped around a beer can, poured at a festival or sitting in a customer’s fridge shortly afterwards.
Alongside product and packaging design, you’ll help shape how Shiny looks, sounds and the strategy of how it tells its story across digital content, events, collaborations and in communication with our independent trade customers.
About Shiny
Based in Little Eaton, ten minutes north of Derby, Shiny Brewery produces progressive craft beer for customers across the UK. We sell through independent pubs, bars and retailers and our online shop, brewery taproom and pubs. We’re not chasing supermarket shelves or growth at any cost. We’re building a distinctive, sustainable business that values people and the planet alongside commercial success.
Think of Shiny as a creative craft beer sandbox, great beer, bold design and smart ideas with plenty of freedom to experiment. Please see what we are about at www.shinybrewing.com before you write your application.
What you’ll do
You’ll lead the creation and delivery of our visual work, including:
- Designing beer cans, pump clips, keg badges, merchandise and other physical products.
- Taking projects from initial concept through to accurate, print ready artwork.
- Protecting and developing a coherent Shiny visual identity across every customer touch point.
- Working with colleagues across brewing, sales and marketing to turn rough ideas into strong, achievable creative concepts.
- Creating campaign assets, photography, video and social content that bring our beers and brewery to life.
- Supporting website, Shopify, email marketing and other direct to consumer activity.
- Producing trade materials and point of sale assets for our independent customers.
- Contributing to collaborations, tap takeovers, festivals and brewery events.
This is not a role where you’ll simply brief agencies or just manage suppliers. You’ll be the person directly creating much of the work.
About you
You’re likely to be a strong fit if you:
- Have professional graphic design experience and an excellent portfolio.
- Are confident designing physical packaging and preparing artwork for print.
- Can develop an idea while also handling the detailed production work needed to get it over the line.
- Have strong visual judgement and understand how to build a recognisable brand in a crowded market.
- Are proactive, organised and comfortable managing several fast moving projects.
- Enjoy autonomy, tight deadlines and seeing the direct results of your work.
- Can use modern digital tools effectively across design, content and marketing.
- Have commercial awareness and know when to refine an idea, simplify it or move quickly to the next release.
- Feel excited by independent, creative and values led businesses.
Experience in craft beer, food and drink, hospitality, music, fashion or another fast moving consumer brand would be useful, but it isn’t essential. An interest in craft beer is welcome, but curiosity, creative energy and alignment with our values matter more.
Shape the role with us
The role will evolve alongside the business. There is plenty of scope to influence our creative direction, improve how we work and build a position around your particular strengths.
Please don’t be put off if you don’t meet every point. We’re interested in talented people who understand what we’re trying to create and believe they could add something valuable to it.
To apply, please send us your CV, portfolio and a brief introduction explaining why Shiny appeals to you.
