Build products, not just qualifications.
Our company designs and manufactures premium professional hand tools here in Nottinghamshire.
We are looking for an enthusiastic apprentice who wants to learn how products are designed, developed and manufactured from beginning to end.
This is not simply a CNC machine operator apprenticeship.
You will learn how an idea becomes a finished product — from CAD and prototypes through machining, inspection, assembly, testing and eventually getting that product into the hands of a customer.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to develop into a highly capable product design and manufacturing engineer within a growing British manufacturing business.
What you'll learn
Working alongside our small experienced team, you will gradually gain experience in:
- CAD and product design
- Reading and creating engineering drawings
- Understanding dimensions, tolerances and fits
- Product development and prototyping
- 3D printing
- CNC machining
- Machine setup and manufacturing processes
- Aluminium, steel and other engineering materials
- Tooling and machining strategies
- Inspection and quality control
- Using precision measuring equipment
- Metrology and our CMM inspection equipment
- Product assembly and finishing
- Product testing
- Production planning
- Stock and component management
- Packaging and distribution
As your ability develops, you will be given increasing responsibility and the opportunity to contribute to real products.
The sort of person we're looking for
Qualifications matter, but attitude matters more.
We are particularly interested in someone who naturally enjoys understanding how things work.
You might already enjoy:
- Making or repairing things
- Engineering
- Cars or motorcycles
- Machinery
- CAD or 3D printing
- Woodworking
- Metalworking
- Technology
- Practical problem solving
You'll need
- A good standard of maths
- Confidence working with measurements and numbers
- Good attention to detail
- A practical mindset
- Reliability and good timekeeping
- A willingness to ask questions and learn
- Pride in doing a job properly
- The ability to work as part of a small team
- Be able to get yourself to our premises in Boughton (bus stop nearby)
Previous workshop, CAD, engineering or manufacturing experience would be useful but is not essential.
About us
TrigJig is a Nottinghamshire-based manufacturer of premium professional measuring, marking and layout tools.
We design our products in-house and manufacture many of them using CNC machining and other modern production methods.
We're a small business, which means apprentices don't disappear into one department.
You'll see how products are designed, manufactured, marketed, sold and distributed — and you'll have the chance to make a genuine contribution.
What we offer
- A structured engineering apprenticeship
- 30 to 37.5-hour working week
- Starting pay above the standard apprentice minimum
- Structured pay progression as your skills and responsibilities increase
- Hands-on experience with real commercial products
- CNC machining experience
- CAD and product development experience
- Modern inspection and metrology equipment
- The opportunity to work directly with the people designing and running the business
- Genuine scope to develop into a long-term engineering role
We are looking for somebody we can invest in and develop over several years, not simply somebody to fill an apprenticeship vacancy.
