Principal Information Analyst/Statistician

Who We Are
As NHS Scotland's unique provider of a national tele-health and tele-care service, we are responsible for the delivery of health advice and information by telephone and online services to the population of Scotland 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. NHS 24 is a patient-focused service providing the people of Scotland with triage, advice, guidance, referral and information on health and healthcare services.
We have five regional centres Aberdeen, Dundee, South Queensferry, Cardonald and Clydebank. NHS 24 supports hybrid working, and this post can be based within any NHS 24 regional centres. The successful candidate must be within commuting distance to a regional centre to attend if required and must also be able to travel to other regional centres when requested to attend meetings, undertake training and any other activities.
The Role
As a Principal Information Analyst/Statistician, you will play a pivotal role in shaping data-driven decision-making across NHS 24. You will lead the development and delivery of high-quality analytical and statistical outputs that support major strategic initiatives, including the Service Transformation Programme and Mental Health Review, working collaboratively with national partners such as Public Health Scotland (PHS). As a member of NHS 24’s senior management team, you will contribute to the organisation’s strategic direction and support the delivery of key business objectives. The role will provide expert statistical and analytical advice across the organisation, delivering innovative analysis to inform service improvement, policy development and operational decision-making. You will also lead the development of robust and meaningful datasets that meet the evolving information needs of NHS 24 and support collaboration and insight-sharing across NHS partner organisations throughout Scotland.
Key Responsibilities

Initiate and/or manage specific projects involving data the effective use of statistics or data development

Work with clinicians, other NHS health professionals, research bodies, other partner organisations and universities to design, scope, analyse and interpret information for specific research projects and audits as required

Be a focal point for managing the development of professional standards within the service area, keeping abreast of developments in National Statistics, UK Statistics Authority assessment and best practice in official statistics

Contribute to the development of fit for purpose quality standards in the use of PHS data and ensure these standards are applied throughout all work of the directorate/organisation
Successful Applicant will:

Be educated to SCQF Level 11 or equivalent, with significant additional, relevant experience in health-related research or information work (preferably in the specialist field of medical/health statistics), and demonstratable experience of staff and project management.
- Demonstrate experience and knowledge across a range of business areas, with a developed knowledge of the NHS and an understanding of the way in which high quality information can support the way the NHS provides services.

Possess strong communication and presentation skills, using a variety of approaches to convey key messages and influence decision making

Have experience of project management, or acting in an advisory capacity in a statistical or research environment is essential

NHS 24 offers a complete benefits package, with a temporary contract of up to 12 months, on Band 7 £52,845 £61,466 Per Annum (pro rata if applicable). Placement on salary scale is dependent on confirmation of previous relevant NHS service.
