About the Advocacy Service
The purpose of this service is to provide exceptional independent advocacy for:
- Children in Need
- Children on Child Protection Plans
- Children with Disabilities
- Children in Care
- Care Leavers up to age 25
- Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children, including those placed out of borough.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Advocacy Coordinator to take day-to-day responsibility for our contracted Children’s Advocacy service.
You will ensure the service is delivered to a high standard, remains independent and child-led at all times, and that children and young people are supported to understand their choices, express their wishes and feelings, and have their voices heard by professionals involved in their lives.
This is a varied role combining service coordination, staff supervision, stakeholder engagement and direct advocacy delivery.
Key Responsibilities
1. Service Coordination
· Oversee the day-to-day delivery of advocacy services, ensuring an appropriate response is made to all referrals received by the Advocacy Service.
· Manage referrals and allocate cases to advocates in a timely and efficient manner.
· Monitor advocate workloads to ensure timely allocation and equitable distribution of cases.
· Ensure advocacy interventions are delivered within contractual response times and statutory guidance.
· Maintain accurate records, databases and case management systems.
· Ensure services meet quality standards and contractual obligations.
· Ensure contractual targets are consistently monitored and met.
· Lead on marketing activity for the geographical area allocated, ensuring the service is well promoted within local authorities, partner agencies and amongst children and young people.
· Assist and, where appropriate, lead on training delivery.
· Liaise with social workers, carers and other professionals on behalf of children and young people.
· Assist in the recruitment, training and supervision of advocates.
· Support delivery of the service, including maintaining a proportionate advocacy caseload alongside coordination responsibilities where required to meet service needs.
2. Staff Supervision & Support
- Provide professional supervision, case management oversight and line management to Advocacy Practitioners in accordance with the supervision policy.
- Facilitate team meetings and encourage a collaborative, learning culture.
- Identify training needs and arrange appropriate development opportunities.
3. Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local authorities, statutory agencies and sign post children and young people where relevant.
- Attend multi-agency meetings as required, representing the advocacy service professionally.
- Promote advocacy services to potential referrers and service users.
- Involve young people in the development of the service.
4. Compliance & Safeguarding
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation. E.g Children Act, Care Act
- Ensure advocacy practice complies with the National Standards for the Provision of Children's Advocacy Services and organisational quality standards.
- Adhere to safeguarding policies and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Ensure data protection compliance in line with GDPR and organisational policies.
5. Reporting & Monitoring
- Prepare regular performance reports, KPI data and service outcome information.
- Collate quantitative and qualitative data on a regular basis for quarterly and annual reports for both internal and external audiences.
- Represent Reconstruct at quarterly meetings with commissioners presenting quarterly report
- Support audits, evaluations and contract monitoring processes.
6. Quality Assurance
· Undertake regular case audits to ensure advocacy records are accurate, compliant and child-focused.
- Monitor the quality of advocacy practice and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Ensure feedback from children and young people informs service development and quality improvement.
- Support the management of complaints, compliments and learning from practice.
Other Duties
The post holder may be required to undertake other reasonable duties and responsibilities that are commensurate with the scope and grade of the post, as directed by their line manager, to meet the needs of the organisation.
The post holder will be expected to work independently, using professional judgement and initiative, whilst contributing positively as part of a supportive team.
The post holder will be required to work flexibly, including occasional evenings, after-school hours and weekends, to meet the needs of children and young people and the requirements of the service.
The post holder will be required to travel to meet children and young people, attend meetings, training and partnership events. A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable or the ability to travel independently across the service area.
