Contract: Term Time Only, 24 hours work over 4 days, 9 am until 3 pm, permanent contract

Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Construction Skills and Maintenance Tutor to join our team.
The Role
As a Construction Skills and Maintenance Tutor, you will deliver engaging, hands-on vocational learning to small groups of students both at our Leicester training centre and within partner schools across the East Midlands. Course content and lesson plans are pre-prepared, allowing you to focus on delivering practical sessions, supporting learner development, and promoting positive outcomes.
You will teach a broad range of basic construction and maintenance skills, helping young people develop practical abilities, confidence, teamwork, and an understanding of workplace expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver pre-planned Construction Skills and Maintenance courses to groups of students.
- Teach learners both in-house and within partner schools across the East Midlands.
- Create a safe, engaging, and positive learning environment.
- Support and encourage pupil participation, achievement, and progression.
- Adapt teaching approaches to meet a variety of learning styles and individual needs.
- Assess and mark student work in line with course requirements.
- Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Promote positive behaviour, teamwork, and professional standards.
- Act as a positive role model for young people.
- Ensure the safe use of tools, equipment, and materials at all times.
- Maintain workshop areas and equipment to appropriate health and safety standards.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and school staff to support learner success.
- Adhere to safeguarding, health and safety, and organisational policies and procedures.
Skills and Knowledge Required
The successful candidate will have practical experience and knowledge in a range of construction and maintenance disciplines, including:
- Basic plastering techniques.
- Wall and floor tiling.
- Basic joinery and woodworking skills.
- Designing and constructing small woodwork projects such as planters, bird boxes, and similar items.
- Painting and decorating.
- Wallpapering.
- General property maintenance and repair skills.
- Safe use of hand and power tools.
- Understanding of workshop health and safety requirements.
Person Specification
Essential
- Previous industry experience within construction, maintenance, joinery, property repairs, painting and decorating, or a related trade.
- Relevant vocational qualifications and/or substantial industry experience.
- Practical knowledge across a range of construction and maintenance disciplines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage, motivate, and inspire young people.
- A patient, calm, and professional approach.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit different learning styles and abilities.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements within practical workshop environments.
Desirable
- Previous teaching, training, coaching, or mentoring experience.
- A recognised teaching or assessor qualification.
- Experience working with young people within education, alternative provision, youth work, or similar settings.
- Understanding of SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Training and Development
A teaching qualification is not essential for this role. We welcome applications from experienced tradespeople and construction professionals who are passionate about sharing their skills and supporting young people.
Successful candidates without a teaching qualification will be supported through ongoing training and professional development opportunities to develop their teaching practice and educational skills.
