About the Role
The Quantity Surveyor supports the commercial and contractual management of projects across the Power Division. The role is responsible for assisting with cost control, valuations, subcontractor management and maintaining strong commercial processes across frameworks. The QS works closely with the Senior QS / Commercial Manager to ensure accurate reporting, effective cost management and adherence to commercial best practice.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Management and Cost Control:

Support the commercial performance of allocated projects.
- Assist in the preparation of Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
- Ensure accurate cost capture and support cost-to-complete forecasting.
- Monitor budgets and escalate risks and opportunities.
- Contribute to achieving predictable financial outcomes.
Valuations, Applications and Billing:

Assist with preparation and submission of client applications/valuations.
- Ensure completed works are accurately recorded and billed.
- Support billing processes and WIP reduction.
- Track certification and payments in line with contract terms.
Subcontractor Management:

Support procurement and administration of subcontractor packages.
- Assist in ensuring subcontract terms reflect main contract requirements.
- Help manage subcontractor payments, variations and accounts.
- Monitor subcontractor performance and cost exposure.
Change Control and Contract Administration:

Assist in managing Compensation Events / Variations in line with NEC or other contracts.
- Maintain accurate change records and documentation.
- Support early identification and notification of risks and changes.
- Provide support to operational teams on contractual matters.
WIP, Cashflow and Financial Governance:

Assist in managing WIP and ensuring works are valued promptly.
- Support cash collection processes and reduce aged debt.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and audit trails.
- Contribute to month-end reporting activities.
Stakeholder and Client Engagement:

Build effective working relationships with operational teams and clients.
- Participate in commercial meetings and reviews.
Provide timely and accurate commercial information.

Team Contribution and Development:

Work collaboratively with Senior QS and wider commercial team.
- Promote consistency and best practice in commercial activities.
- Actively develop own commercial and contractual knowledge.
Experience and Skills:
Essential
- Experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Assistant QS within utilities, construction or infrastructure.
- Basic understanding of NEC contracts and commercial processes.
- Experience supporting CVRs, forecasting and subcontractor accounts.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage workload across multiple projects.
- Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable
- Experience working on UK DNO frameworks
- Experience in power or multi-utility environments.
- Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.
- Working towards professional membership (e.g., RICS).
