OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The External Sales Representative is responsible for driving revenue growth and developing strong customer relationships across the external PVC product range. The role focuses on proactive sales generation, account management, and delivering an outstanding customer experience, while contributing to the overall success and profitability of the branch.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude towards sales and customer service, with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include:
Sales Development & Growth
· Proactively identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities within the assigned territory.
· Manage and grow an existing customer base to maximise sales and margin.
· Achieve and exceed agreed sales, margin, and activity targets.
· Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs to inform sales strategy.
Customer Relationship Management
· Build and maintain strong, long-lasting relationships with customers.
· Act as the primary external contact for customer queries, quotations, and technical advice on external PVC products.
· Deliver a high standard of customer service, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution of issues.
· Conduct regular customer visits to strengthen partnerships and identify opportunities.
Commercial & Operational Support
· Collaborate closely with the Branch Manager and internal teams to deliver customer requirements efficiently.
· Prepare and present accurate quotations, ensuring pricing aligns with company margin expectations.
· Maintain up-to-date records of customer interactions, opportunities, and pipeline activity (CRM usage where applicable).
· Support credit control processes by ensuring customers operate within agreed terms.
Health, Safety & Compliance
· Champion a strong health and safety culture, ensuring compliance with company policies at all times.
· Operate in line with all relevant company procedures and regulatory requirements.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
· Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in an external sales or field sales role, preferably within construction, building materials, or related industries.
· Strong commercial awareness with a track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets.
· Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
· Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
· Highly organised with effective time management and planning abilities.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience using CRM systems is desirable.
· Full, clean driving licence (essential).
