Already a Room Leader or Room Supervisor? We’d love to hear from you.
Equally, if your current job title doesn’t reflect the leadership you already provide, we’re interested in that too.
What we do need is someone who can show us they know how to lead.
Pay starts from £13.50 per hour, with the final rate based on your experience, leadership responsibility and qualifications.
Maybe you’re the person who takes charge when your supervisor is away. Maybe newer practitioners naturally come to you for help. Maybe you’re the one who spots when a room is going slightly off the rails and gets everybody organised again.
If you’ve already shown that you can lead people, make decisions and take responsibility, we’re interested.
So, what are we looking for?
Someone experienced.
Not necessarily someone with the perfect CV, but someone who knows what good early years practice looks like and has the confidence to help other people deliver it too.
You’ll be responsible for one of our nursery rooms and the team working within it.
That means you’ll need to be able to:
- get a busy room organised and keep it running well;
- support practitioners who need help;
- have the occasional difficult conversation when something isn’t good enough;
- notice the little things before they become big things;
- communicate confidently with parents;
- keep planning, observations and children’s development on track;
- understand safeguarding, ratios and the EYFS; and
- make sure that, amongst all of that, the children are actually having a great day.
This is very much a hands-on job. You’ll be on the floor, outdoors, talking to parents, sorting out problems and being part of the room — not sitting behind a desk managing it from afar.
What’s Blue Windmill like?
We’re an independently owned nursery in New Bilton, Rugby, and we’re currently putting a lot of energy into developing the nursery and making it an even better place for children and staff.
We have big gardens, unusual outdoor spaces, planting areas and a resident gardener. We were also awarded Platinum in Rugby in Bloom in 2026.
But we’re not going to pretend that a nice garden is the main reason you’ll choose your next job.
What we hope matters more is that your opinion will count here.
If you know your room could work better a different way, tell us. If you have an idea, we want to hear it. If something isn’t working, we’d rather you said so. In return, we promise that you will be listened to.
What do you need?
You must have:
- a recognised Level 3 or higher early years qualification;
- good experience working in an early years setting;
- a sound knowledge of the EYFS; and
- some genuine experience of leading or supervising other people.
If you’ve never yet had any responsibility for other practitioners, this probably isn’t quite the right role for you.
What about the hours?
This is a year-round position and ideally, we are looking for someone who can work full time.
But finding the right person matters more to us than insisting on one rigid working pattern.
So if you’re experienced and this role sounds like you, but you need some flexibility around your days or hours, talk to us.
We can’t promise that every working pattern will work for the nursery, but we’re very happy to have the conversation.

Good.
If you are an experienced early years practitioner who knows they can lead — whether or not somebody has given you the official title yet — we’d really like to hear from you.
Send us your CV and, rather than a formal covering letter, just tell us a little about the people or teams you’ve previously had responsibility for.
Not sure whether to apply? Come and have a look.
If you’d rather meet us before sending in an application, that’s absolutely fine. We’re happy to arrange an informal visit, show you around Blue Windmill and have a chat about the role. We also have some informal visit slots available on the afternoon of Friday 4th September — just get in touch and we’ll arrange a time.
Blue Windmill Nursery is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful applicant will be subject to appropriate safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
