We are seeking a compassionate Children's Waking Night Support Worker to join a committed team that provides high-quality care and support in a welcoming children's home.
Located in the heart of Reading, this family-oriented home provides a safe and supportive environment for children and young people aged 8 to 18 who have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). By providing the children with therapeutic and child-centred care throughout their day-to-day lives, the team helps young people build resilience, develop life skills, and achieve positive outcomes.
As a Children’s Waking Night Support Worker, you will work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure continuity of support and contribute to a stable, nurturing environment for the children and young people. A calm, patient, and resilient approach is essential, along with the ability to remain alert during overnight hours, manage situations confidently, and follow safeguarding procedures at all times. Your responsibilities will include maintaining accurate records, conducting smooth handovers with the morning team, providing emotional support, and ensuring the home remains structured and well-prepared for the day ahead.
Salary: £26,500 - £29,500 (depending on qualification and experience)
Rota: 4 nights per week from 21:30 - 07:30 or 21:15 - 07:15

Role of a Children's Waking Night Support Worker
- Provide child-centred and trauma-informed care to children overnight
- Take personal responsibility for learning about each young person
- Build meaningful and positive relationships with the children
- Supporting young people to make appropriate choices
- Support with medication administration
- Provide therapeutic and holistic support to the children
- Ensure important information is communicated to the morning team
- Maintain the overall safe, warm, and family-feel environment of the home
- Promote independence, resilience, and social development
- Ensure the day-to-day running of the home is maintained
- Follow safeguarding policies and care plans at all times
- Maintain well-written and detailed records of events and behaviours
- Support the children with their emotional, social, and educational needs and development
Requirements of a Children's Waking Night Support Worker
- Must have a genuine passion for making a positive difference in children’s lives
- Must have prior experience working with children, ideally with emotional and behavioural needs
- Must have a valid UK Driver's License
- Must be able to work 4 shifts a week 21:30 - 07:30 or 21:15 - 07:15
- A level 3 or 4 qualification in Residential Childcare is preferred but not essential.
