Summary of Role:
Capula is seeking a Senior Engineer - OT Windows, Virtualisation and Networking to play a key technical role in the delivery of secure Operational Technology infrastructure across UK energy projects.
You will be responsible for engineering and delivering high-quality OT infrastructure solutions across the full project lifecycle, from concept development and detailed design through to build/configuration, factory acceptance testing, site support and commissioning. Working closely with Lead Engineers, Project Managers, cyber security specialists and clients, you will apply your technical expertise in Microsoft Windows Server, virtualisation, networking and system hardening to ensure solutions are secure, compliant, resilient and aligned with client and regulatory requirements.
This role is suited to an experienced engineer who is technically strong, delivery focused, and comfortable taking ownership of complex OT infrastructure engineering tasks while contributing to team development and project success. Key Responsibilities
OT Infrastructure Design & Delivery

Develop OT infrastructure solutions covering Windows Server, virtualisation platforms, server hardware, storage, backup, domain services and supporting network infrastructure.

Produce and maintain system architecture documents, functional design specifications, detailed design documentation, build guides, configuration records and test specifications.

Specify appropriate server, workstation, virtualisation and network hardware to meet project, lifecycle, resilience and performance requirements.

Estimate configuration and engineering effort to support project planning, change control and delivery forecasting.

Configure Windows Server environments, including domain services, Active Directory, Group Policy, user/group configuration, patching and secure baseline settings.

Design, configure and support OT network infrastructure, including managed switches, firewalls, VLANs, IP addressing, routing, redundancy and segmentation arrangements.

Support the integration of OT infrastructure with SCADA, control, protection and automation systems where required.
Cyber Security, Compliance & Secure Configuration

Work closely with Capula's internal cyber team and the Lead Engineer - OT Windows, Virtualisation and Networking to ensure systems are secure by design.

Apply appropriate hardening, patch management, access control, logging, backup and recovery measures in line with project and client requirements.

Support cyber security reviews, design assurance activities and the implementation of agreed security controls across OT solutions.

Ensure technical solutions comply with relevant client standards, Capula procedures, quality requirements and applicable OT cyber security principles.
Build, Integration & Test

Build, configure and test OT infrastructure platforms in accordance with approved designs, standards and project documentation.

Undertake internal testing, integration testing and customer FAT activities, ensuring issues are identified, recorded and resolved in a controlled manner.

Support the preparation of test plans, test scripts, test evidence and associated quality records.

Troubleshoot technical issues across Windows, virtualisation and network environments, escalating risks or complex issues where appropriate.
Project Delivery & Technical Support

Deliver assigned engineering work packages to agreed time, cost, quality and safety requirements.

Work closely with Project Managers and Lead Engineers to provide technical input on programme, change management, risk, issues and cost impacts.

Take ownership of defined technical tasks, coordinating with other engineering disciplines to ensure interfaces are understood and managed.

Provide technical support during installation, site testing, commissioning and handover activities as required.

Review and check technical outputs produced by others, supporting consistent quality and compliance across the engineering team.
Stakeholder Engagement

Communicate effectively with clients, suppliers, internal cyber specialists, project teams and other engineering disciplines on technical matters.

Support client meetings, technical workshops, design reviews and assurance activities alongside Lead Engineers.

Engage with suppliers and vendors to resolve technical queries, confirm product suitability and support delivery of compliant infrastructure solutions.
Essential Requirements:

Minimum of 3 years' experience delivering OT infrastructure solutions, with hands-on capability across Windows Server, virtualisation and networking.

Strong Windows Server experience, including Active Directory, Group Policy, domain configuration, user/group management, patching and secure baseline configuration.

Experience configuring managed switches, firewalls and OT network infrastructure, including VLANs, IP addressing, routing, segmentation and redundancy principles.

Working knowledge of OT cyber security good practice, including system hardening, access control, patch management, backup/recovery and secure configuration.

Experience producing system architecture, functional design, detailed design, build, configuration and test documentation to a controlled project standard.

Experience supporting internal testing, integration testing and customer FAT activities, including preparation of test evidence and resolution of technical issues.

Ability to take ownership of defined work packages, estimate engineering effort, manage technical interfaces and deliver to agreed time, cost, quality and safety requirements.

Experience reviewing and checking technical work produced by others, with a strong understanding of project lifecycle delivery and associated QA procedures.

Understanding of IEC 62443 principles or equivalent OT cyber security standards
Desirable Requirements/experience:
- Experience delivering OT infrastructure within energy, utilities or other regulated industrial environments.

Exposure to SCADA, automation, protection or control system platforms, including integration with Windows Server, virtualisation and network infrastructure.

Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus TCP/RTU, IEC 60870-5-101/104, IEC 61850, DNP3, Profibus or Profinet.

Experience with OT network resilience and redundancy technologies, including RSTP, PRP, HSR or software-defined networking.

Experience supporting site installation, commissioning, handover or system upgrade activities.

Relevant vendor training or certification in Microsoft, VMware, Hyper-V, Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto or equivalent infrastructure technologies.

Awareness of functional safety principles or experience working on systems delivered in line with IEC 61508 and/or IEC 61511.
