The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Family & Care Lawyer to join our busy Family Department. The successful candidate will handle a varied caseload covering both private family matters and public law/Legal Aid care work, ensuring clients receive compassionate, clear, and expert legal advice during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
This role would be based in our Weston-super-Mare office; however, a hybrid working pattern would be considered for the right candidate.
The ideal candidate would be able to work full-time hours: Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm.
The salary offered for this role will be dependent on experience.
Duties
- Manage a mixed caseload of private family matters (including divorce, separation, injunctions, children matters) and public law care proceedings under Legal Aid.
- Provide clear, empathetic, and professional legal advice to clients facing sensitive family issues.
- Attend court hearings, meetings, and conferences as required.
- Prepare, draft, and manage all relevant legal documentation, including statements, applications, care bundles, and court forms.
- Liaise effectively with clients, counsel, social workers, guardians, courts, and other professionals.
- Ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements, including billing, file maintenance, and audit standards.
- Keep clients informed at every stage of their matter, ensuring they understand the legal process.
- Maintain accurate, detailed records in line with regulatory and firm requirements.
- Keep up to date with changes in family and childcare law to provide the best possible service.
Requirements
- Qualified Solicitor, CILEX Lawyer or other suitably experienced Family Law Fee Earner.
- Experience in family law is essential; experience in care proceedings and Legal Aid work is highly desirable.
- Strong advocacy skills and confidence attending hearings.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to support clients in distressing circumstances.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy and varied caseload.
- Proficient in legal case management systems and comfortable using technology.
- A proactive, empathetic approach to client care and problem-solving.
