We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client, a provider of residential care and support for children and young people, for an experienced and compassionate Waking Night Children’s Residential Support Worker to join their team in Leyland, Lancashire.

As a Waking Night Children’s Residential Support Worker, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining a calm and supportive environment throughout the night, ensuring the children and young people within the home remain safe and receive the support and reassurance they need.
Do You Need a Level 3 Qualification?
Our client welcomes applications from candidates who either:
- Hold a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or an equivalent relevant qualification; OR
- Have a minimum of six months’ relevant experience working with children or young people and are willing to undertake the appropriate qualification.
If you don’t currently hold your Level 3 but have at least six months’ relevant experience, we would still like to hear from you.
For the right candidate, our client can support ongoing training and development towards the appropriate qualification.
The Role
As a Waking Night Children’s Residential Support Worker, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care and support throughout the night.
Your duties will include:
- Providing attentive and compassionate support to children and young people
- Maintaining a safe, secure and nurturing environment throughout the night
- Supporting young people who may wake and require reassurance or emotional support
- Carrying out regular welfare and safety checks
- Responding appropriately to emotional, behavioural or safeguarding concerns
- Building positive and professional relationships with the young people in your care
- Supporting positive behaviour and using appropriate de-escalation techniques where required
- Following individual care plans, risk assessments and agreed support strategies
- Maintaining accurate records, reports and handovers
- Completing appropriate household and administrative duties during the night
- Following safeguarding, health and safety, medication and organisational procedures
- Providing an effective handover to the incoming day team

To be considered, you should have:
- A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent qualification OR a minimum of six months’ relevant experience working with children or young people
- Experience within children’s residential care, support work, youth work or another relevant setting
- A genuine commitment to supporting children and young people
- The ability to work waking night shifts and remain alert throughout the shift
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- The confidence to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally
- Good written communication skills for completing reports and records
- An understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
- A patient, resilient and consistent approach
- The ability to work effectively as part of a wider residential care team

Essential Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must:
- Hold a relevant Level 3 qualification OR have a minimum of six months’ relevant experience working with children or young people
- Be able to work waking night shifts
- Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
- Be able to manage challenging situations professionally
- Be willing to undertake required training and professional development
- Be able to maintain accurate written records and reports
- Have the right to work in the UK
Successful candidates will be subject to the appropriate enhanced DBS check, safer recruitment checks and satisfactory references.
