This is a unique opportunity for a skilled Health and Social Care Solicitor to join us at a pivotal stage of our growth. You will be our first in-house legal appointment, providing expert advice to our clients on CQC regulatory matters while helping us build a legal function that will underpin our SRA registration. You will be hands-on, client-facing and integral to the services we deliver.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing CQC casework including responses to Warning Notices, Notice of Proposals to Cancel/Vary Registration, and Special Measures representations.
- Advising clients on CQC inspection outcomes, factual accuracy challenges, and appeals to the First-tier Tribunal (Care Standards).
- Supporting providers through cancellation proceedings and enforcement action.
- Drafting and reviewing regulatory documents, representations, and submissions.
- Advising on the Health and Social Care Act 2008, associated regulations, and the CQC's Single Assessment Framework.
- Assisting clients with CQC registration applications and registered manager requirements.
- Contributing to the development of our legal practice ahead of SRA registration.
- Keeping abreast of regulatory developments and sharing insights across the team.
What We Are Looking For
- Qualified solicitor (admitted in England and Wales), with a current or immediately renewable practising certificate.
- A minimum of 4 years PQE, gained in health and social care regulation
- Demonstrable experience managing CQC cases end-to-end, including Notice of Proposal/Decision work and tribunal proceedings.
- Strong knowledge of the CQC regulatory framework, the Health and Social Care Act 2008, and associated regulations.
- Experience advising health or social care providers, whether from private practice or an in-house/consultancy setting.
- Excellent written advocacy skills with the ability to draft compelling legal representations.
- Client-focused and commercially aware, with the ability to communicate complex regulatory issues clearly to non-legal audiences.
- Motivated to help build a practice and comfortable working in an entrepreneurial environment.
