Tarlatan is a new kids’ club, offering a combination of guided activities and free play. Providing a fun, enriching alternative to the screen-based childhood, each session starts with an extra-curricular class, and ends with open-ended play. Kids can choose from a range of activities including art & craft, cooking, athletics, and more.
Our sessions help kids explore interests and passions through guided activities, while developing social skills, independence, confidence, creativity, and initiative through free play. Sessions are run by dedicated and experienced educators and professionals, committed to helping children flourish and reach their full potential.
At our Oval branch, the Cookery Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering the classes, as well as supervising free play. Ongoing support is provided by the company director and other site-based staff.
Employment Basis
This is a casual worker position with no guaranteed minimum hours. Work is offered on a sessional, as-required basis in line with our programme schedule, and you are under no obligation to accept sessions offered. As the branch establishes itself and demand grows, we hope to offer increasing regularity of sessions and the opportunity to move into a more permanent part-time arrangement.
Schedule
We are currently looking for a part-time Cookery Teacher to cover the following sessions:
Saturday 08:45am-1pm
Salary: £17per hour
Ability to commute/relocate: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Work Location: Oval area – exact location to be confirmed.

Job Responsibilities
Teaching & Child Development
- Teach children who love cooking in a fun environment with good teacher-student ratios.
- Plan and deliver engaging, skill-based cooking programmes tailored to individual student needs. Incorporate termly themes, and cover a range of ingredients and techniques over the course of the year.
- Continuously evaluate and monitor student progress, preparing personalised learning plans.
- Create a safe, nurturing, and inspiring environment for students to flourish.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with students and parents, providing regular progress updates.
- Supervise children during free play sessions. As described, each 1 hour 45 min session starts with a guided activity, and ends with free play. During free play, children may decide to continue the art activity in a self-directed way, or play freely in the playground or hall.
- Support other Tarlatan staff with other extra-curricular activities from time to time. Child numbers may vary across different activities, and it may sometimes be necessary to assist colleagues in delivering activities and supporting children.
Training & Professional Development
- Continuously develop cooking and teaching skills to enhance class delivery.
Studio Management
- Co-ordinate management of kitchen operations, including ordering and managing ingredients in line with agreed budgets.
- Manage, motivate, and mentor assistants, delegating tasks and alignment with the site goals.
- Foster connections with the local community and resource/coordinate events with your studio team to promote your studio.
- Follow child safeguarding and H&S policies at all times.

The Ideal Candidate:
- Qualified and experienced — holds a Level 2 Food Hygiene and Safety certificate (or equivalent) and has demonstrable experience teaching or leading cooking sessions with children aged 5–11 in an educational, community, or professional setting
- Creative and adaptable — able to plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate recipes that work within a shared hall and small kitchen environment, adjusting sessions confidently for mixed abilities, dietary requirements, and allergies
- Safety-conscious and organised — understands and rigorously applies food safety, allergen management, and kitchen hygiene standards, and takes personal responsibility for maintaining a safe cooking environment at all times
- Warm and encouraging — naturally builds confidence in children who may never have cooked before, making every child feel capable, included, and proud of what they've made
