Apprentice Greenkeeper
Job Purpose
The Apprentice Greenkeeper will be expected to help maintain the Club’s three courses to the highest standard in line with the Club’s Golf Course Policy. This position provides the apprentice the opportunity to showcase their current skills and attributes as well as developing new ones through on the job work experience and attendance at college. This is a 3 year apprenticeship, resulting in a Level 2 Certificate in Sportsturf Greenkeeping.
The position offers competitive remuneration, excellent staff benefits including the opportunity to play on Gullane’s three fantastic golf courses. The position is full time permanent, working 5 days from 7 as per seasonal rota and will require weekend working.
Key Duties/Responsibilities
- Assisting the Greens team in the day-to-day maintenance of the golf courses.
- Service, maintain and repair damaged areas of the course and equipment.
- Be prepared and able to assist in any area of the department that requires support.
- Ensuring that all working practices are conducted within Health & Safety guidelines as laid down in the Club’s working document.
- To always be aware of risk assessments both to other staff and yourself.
- Maintain a courteous and timely service to Members and visitors.
- Following the Club’s environmental policies with particular regard to the fact that the Courses are covered in part as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Nature Reserve.

Training to be Provided
- Training will be on the job only for the first year, then in year 2 you will study for a Level 2 Certificate in Sportsturf Greenkeeping which will include one-day-a-week college day release.
- During your time at Gullane Golf Club you will be gaining technical knowledge and collating evidence of learning, be observed and receive training as to how the golf course operates.
