Havant Borough Council is looking for a resourceful and motivated individual to join us as an IG Support Officer. We are looking for someone who wants to learn new skills through practical experience in data protection, freedom of information, and information management.
You will work alongside the council’s Data Protection Officer and Information Governance Officer to support the council’s compliance with access to information and data protection legislation. You will use your keen eye for accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of the role. Your organisation and time management skills will be essential to work with different teams across the organisation to ensure that information requests are answered fully and promptly. You will also be supporting internal teams to manage their information safely.
This role will provide you with a strong foundation for a rewarding career in the fast-changing field of Information Governance.
You should have

A desire to learn about information governance and progress by undertaking training to obtain the necessary skills and knowledge for the role.

Knowledge of IT software packages, e.g., Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Excellent attention to detail.

Essential ability to proofread your own work and that of others.

The ability to input data with accuracy and precision.

Excellent customer service skills both in person and on calls e.g. Teams calls/meetings.

Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines.

Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)
As part of Local Government Reorganisation, current plans will see us combine with Portsmouth City Council and the district and borough councils of Fareham, Gosport and parts of East Hampshire and Winchester district councils to form a new, larger unitary authority for South East Hampshire.
We are working towards an implementation date of 1 April 2028, known as vesting day, subject to Parliamentary approval. Until then, we remain focused on maintaining continuity, supporting our workforce, and continuing to deliver excellent services to our residents throughout the transition to the new unitary authority.
