Role Overview
We are looking for a capable and commercially minded Estimator to join Serene Stone. The role will involve reviewing enquiries, drawings and specifications, preparing accurate quotations, and supporting the business in converting opportunities into profitable orders.
Experience estimating cast stone products would be desirable, but it is not essential. We are happy to consider sensible, organised and numerate candidates who may not have direct cast stone estimating experience but can demonstrate good attention to detail, commercial awareness and a willingness to learn.
Key Responsibilities
· Review customer enquiries, drawings, schedules and specifications to understand project requirements.
· Prepare accurate and timely quotations for cast stone products and related works.
· Measure and take off quantities from drawings and customer information.
· Liaise with customers and internal colleagues to clarify requirements where needed.
· Obtain supplier, subcontractor or transport prices where required.
· Assess costs including materials, labour, production time, delivery and any project-specific requirements.
· Maintain clear records of estimates, assumptions, revisions and customer communications.
· Follow up quotations and support the sales process to help convert enquiries into orders.
· Work closely with production and operations colleagues to ensure quoted work is practical, achievable and correctly specified.
· Identify risks, exclusions or special requirements that need to be highlighted in quotations.
· Support continuous improvement of estimating templates, pricing information and quotation processes.
Candidate Requirements
· Strong numeracy skills and confidence working with measurements, quantities and pricing.
· Good attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate work under time pressure.
· Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and technical information, or the aptitude to learn.
· Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Organised, methodical and able to manage multiple enquiries at the same time.
· Commercial awareness and an understanding of the importance of profitable pricing.
· Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and general office systems.
· A practical, common-sense approach and willingness to ask questions where information is unclear.
· Positive attitude, reliability and a willingness to learn the cast stone sector.
Desirable Experience
· Previous experience in an estimating, sales support, quantity surveying, construction, manufacturing or building products role.
· Experience estimating cast stone, architectural stone, precast concrete, masonry, joinery, metalwork or other manufactured construction products.
· Experience dealing with contractors, architects, developers or construction industry customers.
· Familiarity with drawings, take-offs, bills of quantities or tender information.
