Triumph Consultants are looking for a
Paralegal, within a
Legal & Democratic Services team to assist in tasks, particularly
planning, civil and criminal litigation, licensing, prosecutions, conveyancing, complaints and website content management. Contract is for approx.
4 months in Newton Abbot, Devon, TQ12 4XX

Pay Rate: Up to £19.81 per hour PAYE, doe
Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours

Hybrid working with minimum 3 days in the office. They will be required to attend the offices in Newton Abbot.
Key requirements:
- Either a relevant Degree LLB, BA Law or CPE/GDL in the last 7 years, Or completed CILEX Advanced Level or Level 6 Professional
- Higher Diploma in Law and Practice
- Studying CILEX Professional Paralegal (Level 7 qualification) is desirable
- An experienced paralegal who minimises workload to senior legal officers and Head of Legal
- Experience of managing own caseload without supervision
- Ideally previous local government experience that includes Legal planning, civil and criminal litigation, licensing, prosecutions, conveyancing, complaints and website content management
Key responsibilities
- Preparation of cases to be dealt with in the Civil Courts, including injunctions, proceedings for the recovery of debts and landlord and tenant matters including arranging and participating in telephone conferences and representation at Court.
- Preparation of cases to be dealt with in the Criminal Courts, including prosecutions for environmental protection, housing standards, education welfare, anti-social behaviour, trading standards, fraud and other regulatory matters.
- Analysing and advising upon evidence in respect of both civil and criminal matters, drafting summonses/information’s, statements of case, originating applications and attending pre-hearing meetings to advise.
- Undertaking advocacy at the County Courts, Magistrates’ Court or Tribunal, including preliminary hearings, interim applications and trials.
- Carrying out research and giving advice at the appropriate level to all Council services.
- Complying with Court directions in a timely and efficient manner.
- Preparing briefs for Counsel to attend Court / Tribunal Hearings and Public Inquiries.
- Attending conferences with counsel and assisting Counsel at Hearings and Public Inquiries.
- Joint working with Senior legal officer on Employment Tribunal cases.
- Joint working with Senior legal officer on licensing and prosecution matters.
