Job Title: General Operative
Location: WLR Precision Engineering, Nottingham
Job Purpose
WLR Precision Engineering is seeking a reliable and motivated General Operative to join our production team. This role will primarily involve finishing and deburring precision-engineered components, operating machinery such as saws following training, and supporting manufacturing operations to ensure products meet the high-quality standards expected by our customers.
The successful candidate will have a strong eye for detail, a commitment to quality, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills within a precision engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out finishing, deburring, and polishing of machined components using hand tools and finishing equipment.
- Inspect components for defects and ensure they meet customer and quality requirements.
- Operate finishing benches safely and efficiently.
- Undertake training to operate production saws and other machinery as required.
- Perform basic assembly, cleaning, and preparation of parts for dispatch.
- Read and follow work instructions, drawings, and quality documentation.
- Use measuring equipment where required to verify component quality.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
- Report any quality concerns, equipment issues, or safety hazards to management.
- Support other production departments as workload demands.
- Comply with all company Health & Safety procedures and quality standards.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to carry out repetitive tasks while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Good manual dexterity and practical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Good timekeeping and reliability.
Desirable
- Experience within a precision engineering or machining environment.
- Experience using hand tools, deburring equipment, or finishing tools.
- Experience operating saws or other production machinery.
- Ability to read engineering drawings.
- Experience using measuring equipment such as verniers, micrometers, or gauges.
