Deputy Cook - Heron House Residential Care Home, Taunton
Basic Pay £14.93 per hour, Weekend Pay £15.61 per hour, Overtime Basic £19.91 per hour and Overtime Weekend £20.81 per hour.

About the role
Are you a caring, organised and enthusiastic cook who takes pride in preparing good, wholesome food? Heron House Residential Home is looking for a Deputy Cook to join our friendly kitchen team and support the Head Cook in delivering nutritious, varied and enjoyable meals for our residents.

Main duties
- Support the Head Cook with the day-to-day running of the kitchen
- Take responsibility for the kitchen in the absence of the Head Cook
- Prepare, cook and serve hot and cold meals as required
- Provide for special dietary requirements and individual resident preferences
- Support menu planning, food ordering, stock rotation and checking deliveries
- Maintain fridge, freezer and food temperature records
- Maintain HACCP and Safer Food Better Business records
- Work closely with care staff to ensure residents changing dietary needs are understood and implemented
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, food hygiene, health and safety in the kitchen and dining areas
- Support, guide and assist other kitchen staff where required
About you
- Previous experience as a Cook, Deputy Cook, Chef or similar kitchen role
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
- Understanding of nutrition and special dietary requirements
- Kind, respectful, compassionate and able to communicate well with residents and colleagues
- Good team working skills and ability to use your own initiative
- Organised, reliable and flexible in approach
- Experience in a care home or similar setting would be an advantage
