Safe Harbor is a family-run provider of Residential and Residential Dementia Care Homes across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire. We’re proud of the supportive culture in our homes and the standards we continue to build—quality, dignity, safety, and person-centred care, every day.
We are looking for bank (0hrs) maintenance staff to complement our team and support our care homes with safety/compliance checks, general maintenance and remedial repairs, decorating and gardening, and home improvements.

The role (what you’ll be doing)
- Completing day-to-day repairs and improvements across the building, services and grounds
- Reporting and actioning defects (appliances, furniture, equipment, hazards) and keeping a clear maintenance log
- Basic multi-trade tasks as needed: decoration, joinery, minor plumbing/electrical (within competence)

- Carrying out planned checks and recording results, including:
- Weekly fire alarm tests and logging
- Checks of call points, fire exits, door retainers and emergency lighting (as per procedure)
- Water temperature checks for Legionella control (as per procedure)
- Replacing light bulbs/diffusers and keeping ventilation units/lights clean
- Assisting/supervising deliveries and monitoring goods received
- Maintaining an inventory of furniture, fittings and equipment (logging items in/out and disposals)
- Working safely at all times, following Health & Safety and fire procedures, and ensuring risk assessments are in place when required
What we’re looking for
- Proven general maintenance experience (care setting helpful but not essential)
- Practical skills across general repairs and upkeep (decoration/joinery/basic plumbing/electrical)
- Strong awareness of Health & Safety and safe working practices
- Organised approach with good attention to detail—accurate record keeping is essential
- A proactive mindset: spot issues early and fix or escalate quickly
- A full driving licence and access to a vehicle (or willingness/ability to travel between sites if required)
- Right to work in the UK — applicants must not require sponsorship now or in the future
