Job Title: Newcastle upon Tyne Local Party Organiser
Responsible to: Regional Development Officer (for line management), Newcastle City Party Executive (for strategic direction)
Salary range: £25,500 to £29,000 (pro-rata)
Hours: 5 days per week
Tenure: Fixed-term to 31 May 2027. We hope that this position will continue beyond this based on the success of the role and further ongoing funding being found.
Location: Hybrid working between home and local target wards

Purpose of the job
Newcastle upon Tyne Liberal Democrats are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated person who can manage a team of volunteers and build campaigning capacity across Newcastle upon Tyne.
This is a fantastic opportunity to lead the work, and to deliver campaigning activity. You will build on our recent success where we have recently taken minority control of the council. This work will build the infrastructure and organisation necessary to support existing, and elect new, Newcastle Liberal Democrat councillors across the city for local elections in May 2027.
Job Description:
Campaign plan delivery - Take overall responsibility for delivering the agreed local party campaign plans, as agreed between the CPE and the Regional Development Officer.
- Design and deliver an ongoing programme of doorstep communication with voters.
- Manage the production of most campaign literature and coordination of the delivery of this literature.
- Organise local party campaigning events (such as action days).
- Liaise with the relevant party treasurers to budget and account for campaign expenses.
Build campaigning and organisational capacity – including recruiting members, donors, deliverers, clerical helpers and poster sites.
Maintain and update relevant party databases e.g. deliverers, donors, poster sites etc.
Support fundraising and assist with fundraising campaigns and events as required.
Attend relevant conferences, training and other meetings as required.
Person Specification:
The following criteria are considered essential:
- Exceptional personal organisation.
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to handle competing priorities and work deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision, self-motivated and able to manage own workload and work with a number of stakeholders.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead, mobilise and manage volunteers.
- Excellent written communication skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with current issues within UK politics and sympathy with the values and principles of the Liberal Democrats.
- Good computer literacy; Microsoft office, email and data systems.
- Self-development to learn new skills over time.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
The following criteria are considered highly desirable:
- Experience of delivering effective Liberal Democrat campaigns.
- Experience of Liberal Democrat software and databases (e.g. Affinity Publisher, Lighthouse, and Connect)
