We are recruiting for a 6 month fixed term Community Urgent Care GP role starting November 2026 where you can gain experience and insight into our Community Urgent Care provision in an expanding medical team.
This is a part-time role for a GP to join our team and work Monday, Wednesday and Friday - although we may consider a job share arrangement to cover all three days. As part of an agreed Job Plan, shifts will be worked either at Henley (1000-1800) or Abingdon (0900-1800). The Job Plan will include unpaid breaks but paid CPD time is provided in addition.

Your priority will be to help support and deliver our Community Urgent Care services, which operate 7 days a week, 8am till 8pm. This role will be purely weekday working with no weekend or out of hours commitment. As part of an agreed job plan, you will work at either (or both) Abingdon Emergency Multidisciplinary Unit (AEMU) or the Rapid Access Care Unit (RACU) in Henley. This is a hands-on role to provide acutely unwell (mostly elderly) patients with further assessment and treatment as an alternative to secondary care .
You’ll work alongside an exceptional multidisciplinary team of nurses and therapists, with access to point-of-care diagnostics including blood testing and ECGs, as well as on-site X-ray facilities. There are also opportunities to learn, teach and engage in personal development activities.
Provide high quality clinical care and assessments
In accordance with the agreed job plan, undertake a variety of duties which may include community Same Day Emergency Care (cSDEC) consultations, same day home visits and telephone consultations
Deliver personalised, evidence informed medical assessments and care plans to all patients you interface with in the pathway, in person or remotely
Provide advice and timely medical reviews and interventions as part of the inter-disciplinary model of care
Support and actively manage admission avoidance to acute hospitals and keeping patients closer or in their own home
Adhere to local prescribing guidelines
Work in close partnership and liaison with Primary Care, acute and specialist services, urgent and ambulatory care, Hospital at Home, Single Point of Access (SPA), Community Services (such as Integrated Locality Teams, Community Therapy Service), Social Services, Mental Health Services and Voluntary Services both clinically and in relation to service development
Co-ordinate the clinical care and appropriate support in collaboration with clinical and management colleagues to ensure the quality of outcomes for patients and carers
Requirement to work at another of our base sites (Henley, Witney and Abingdon) in exceptional circumstances e.g. acute sickness

As a Community Urgent Care (CUC) GP working for the people of Oxfordshire, your role will be varied, interesting, and ultimately rewarding. Our Primary, Community and Dental Care Directorate comprises of several services which provide same day, acute and urgent care to patients, close to, or where possible, in their own home as a safe alternative to secondary care.
