We manufacture specialist medical-grade paper used by hospitals and laboratories around the world from our mill in the South Cumbrian countryside.
Maintaining a busy industrial site requires someone practical, adaptable and willing to take ownership. This is a varied, hands-on role for a skilled all-rounder who takes pride in keeping a workplace safe, organised and well maintained.
No two days will be the same. You may be supporting the engineering team with machine maintenance, receiving and organising critical spare parts, repairing a door, carrying out basic plumbing work or redecorating an office. We are looking for someone who notices what needs attention and gets on with it—regardless of whether the task is large or small.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out general maintenance and repairs across the site.
- Support the engineering team with planned and reactive machine maintenance.
- Undertake a wide range of practical tasks, including basic joinery, plumbing, fitting and general repairs.
- Manage the engineering stores, including goods-in, stock control and the organisation of parts and materials.
- Ensure tools, spares and consumables are stored correctly and readily available when required.
- Help maintain a clean, tidy and professional working environment, both inside and outside the mill.
- Complete decorating work and support the general upkeep of the buildings and grounds.
- Identify maintenance issues and take appropriate action before they develop into larger problems.
- Work in accordance with site health and safety procedures and contribute to maintaining a safe workplace for everyone.
Skills and experience
- Strong practical ability and previous hands-on maintenance experience.
- Competence across a range of general maintenance activities, including basic mechanical work, joinery, plumbing and decorating.
- A valid forklift truck licence.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Relevant access equipment qualifications, such as IPAF and/or PASMA.
- The ability to work independently, organise priorities and complete tasks without close supervision.
- A reliable, proactive and flexible approach.
- A genuine commitment to completing work properly and to a high standard.
The person we are looking for
We recruit as much for attitude as we do for technical ability. Skilled hands are important, but the right person will also take ownership of the site around them. They will spot what needs doing, find a practical solution and see the job through without waiting to be asked.
This role will suit someone who enjoys variety, prefers being busy and takes genuine pride in helping to keep an important manufacturing operation safe, efficient and well presented.
