About the role
Balfour Beatty Power T&D are looking for a BIM Technician - Civils to join their team in Derby.
Role purpose:
Working with project teams, designers and technicians to deliver the scope of works in line with project objectives. Producing drawing outputs for both initial and detail design phases and support the design of substation and overhead line civil works whilst complying with internal quality control processes.
Primarily utilising BIM authoring tools such as Autodesk Revit, the role requires close collaboration with different teams and disciplines, and will involve evaluating design calculations to develop practical engineering drawings based on these parameters. The successful candidate will need to apply engineering knowledge to ensure that all designs are feasible, safe, and well-optimised.
What you'll be doing
Key Accountabilities:
To produce engineering drawings and reinforcement schedules based upon the civil designs required on Power T&D projects.
Ensure the timely and quality production of deliverables to a high technical level which are compliant with the required Client and national technical standards (BS/Eurocodes/ENA).
Key Responsibilities:
To assess and identify design and temporary works requirements on each project. Including:
- Drive a Safety by Design approach at all times.
- Work closely with other elements of the design team to ensure effective collaboration on multi-disciplinary projects.
- Ensure appropriate Quality Assurance Standards are applied.
- Produce Drawings and Material Schedules to the required standard first time and within time scales set.
- Assist in the checking of Documents produced by other members of the team.
- Liaise as necessary with the design and operations personnel to determine the most suitable and practical interpretation of design requirements.
- Comply with project and function specific standards and practices.
- Produce accurate packages with minimum of rework
- Produce accurate and complete records
Typical deliverables will include but are not limited to:
- Reinforced concrete foundation drawings for overhead line towers
- Reinforced concrete foundation drawings for overhead line tower upgrades / remedial works
- Reinforced concrete foundation drawings for bunds, retaining walls and other structures
- Bar bending schedules
- Setting out drawings
- Reinforced concrete foundation drawings for substation equipment
- Overall BIM Models/layouts for federated models
Who we're looking for
Skills Required:
- Proven experience of the drawing of civil engineering works
- Competent in the use of Autodesk Revit
- IT Literate (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel)
- Desire to operate in a technician role and develop skillset to support designers
- Excellent communication skills
Skills Desired:
- Civils 3D software experience
- AutoCAD or Microstation experience
- Autodesk Recap Experience
- Experience working with Lidar/survey data
- Experience working with geolocated models
- Previous experience complying with quality assurance processes
- Experience working in a Common Data Environment (CDE) such as BIM360 or Forma
- Good understanding of BIM principals (PAS1192 and ISO19650)
- Good understanding of engineering principles
