Hours of Work/Work Pattern: Monday to Friday, 9:15am – 5:00pm with a 45-minute paid lunch break

About the Role
Join the City of London Corporation’s Port Health and Public Protection Division as an experienced Environmental Health Officer (EHO), specialising in Pollution Control and Private Rented Sector Housing. This is a key position within a high-performing team, tackling some of the most complex and high-profile environmental challenges in the Square Mile and surrounding areas.
You will deliver proactive and reactive environmental protection services, from construction noise control to housing inspections and enforcement. Your work will influence policies, respond to urgent public health concerns, and contribute directly to the City's strategic goals for safety and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Lead on complex pollution control cases
Carry out risk-based inspections, licensing and planning application reviews, and manage high-impact complaints
Assess applications for out-of-hours noisy works (including Section 61 applications)
Prepare enforcement notices, technical reports, and committee briefings
Investigation of private sector housing enforcement cases
Supervise junior officers and mentor students
Represent the City in professional forums and develop cross-sector partnerships
Participate in the out-of-hours Duty Manager rota (Casual Standby Allowance applies)
Undertake work occasionally outside of core hours (Time Off in Lieu applies)
About You
Degree in Environmental Health and registration with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHORB)
Proven experience in pollution control, including construction noise and infrastructure impacts
Knowledge in private sector housing enforcement, including HHSRS assessments
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience drafting notices and technical documents
Strong stakeholder management and inter-agency collaboration skills
Competency in Microsoft Office and specialist EH software
Desirable: postgraduate qualification in acoustics or related environmental health discipline
