We are seeking a motivated and dependable Driver and Porter/Drivers Mate/Trainee Furniture Restorer to join our dynamic team. As a vital part of our operations, you will be responsible for delivering furniture, assisting with moving and handling, and supporting the restoration process. Responsibilities
- Safely operate company vehicles to deliver furniture and restoration materials to various locations, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations
- Assist with loading and unloading furniture, ensuring heavy lifting is performed safely using proper techniques and equipment
- Support the transportation of furniture between warehouses, workshops, and client sites with professionalism and efficiency
- Communicate clearly with team members and clients to coordinate delivery schedules and address any logistical issues promptly
- Help with warehouse organization, including inventory management, stock movement, and maintaining a clean workspace
- Assist in furniture restoration tasks as needed, including minor repairs or preparation work under supervision
- Follow all health and safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment for yourself and others
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a delivery driver or in a similar role involving commercial driving or warehouse work
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Experience in heavy lifting and manual handling of furniture or similar items
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with team members and customers
- Knowledge of driving regulations applicable to commercial vehicles and safe driving practices
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various environments
- Willingness to learn new skills related to furniture restoration and handling

We’re looking for one hardworking, practical person to join our Abbey family/team in a varied, hands-on role.
No two days at The Abbey Group are quite the same. You could be:
Driving and assisting with collections and deliveries
Carefully wrapping, loading and unloading furniture and contents
Working at policyholders’ homes and client premises alongside our experienced team
Helping with general workshop and warehouse duties
Learning the traditional skills of furniture restoration and repair
An interest in furniture restoration, woodwork or practical hands-on work would be a real advantage, but importantly we’re looking for someone reliable, hardworking and keen to learn.
The role involves lifting and moving furniture, so applicants must be physically fit, and a full UK driving licence is essential.
All our restoration training is carried out within the company, giving the right person the opportunity to learn skills across wood, furniture, leather, fabrics, marble and more from our experienced craftspeople.
