Job Title: Learning Support Assistant (Mental Health Support Worker)

Leader Education are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our team in North Tyneside. This vital role involves supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within an educational setting. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and families to create a nurturing environment that promotes positive development and learning. Your enthusiasm and proactive approach will help empower children to reach their full potential, ensuring they feel safe, supported, and motivated every day.
Many pupils have experienced trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), which can present as challenging behaviour, low attendance, or complex additional needs.
The ideal Teaching Assistant will:
- Have a fully enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one
- Have experience of working in a transferable role
- Have knowledge of ACES and EHCPs
- Follow personalised curriculum's and care plans to meet pupil’s requirements
- Work with the pupils on both a 1:1 basis and in group settings, communicating effectively
- Possess good classroom skills
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other teams to create a holistic supportive environment for the pupil
- Provide tailored support to children with SEMH needs, fostering emotional resilience and social skills
- Assist in implementing individualized learning plans designed by educators and specialists
- Support children with autism and other disabilities, encouraging participation in classroom activities
- Promote positive behavior management strategies to create a calm and structured environment
