Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the Role: We are seeking a motivated and responsible Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. As part of the Engineering team, you will play a key role in supporting the Head of Engineering to ensure all projects in the operating plan are delivered on time, on budget and to specification. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is organised, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
· Lead the design of mechanical systems and components within projects.
· Take ownership of complex engineering problems and provide robust technical solutions.
· Review and approve engineering work produced by more junior engineers.
Design
· Produce and oversee high-quality CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
· Ensure appropriate application of GD&T and engineering standards.
· Lead concept generation, design optimisation, and problem-solving activities.
Engineering Analysis
· Carry out and review hand calculations, simulations, and engineering analysis activities.
· Use tools such as ANSYS, HyperWorks, or Siemens Simcenter where appropriate.
· Define appropriate validation and testing activities.
· Critically review sub-contracted analysis work
Engineering Documentation
· Lead the creation of engineering specifications, reports, and technical documentation.
· Ensure engineering outputs are accurate, traceable, and released correctly.
Supplier & External Liaison
· Lead technical interaction with suppliers, manufacturing teams, and external partners.
· Support supplier selection, design reviews, and issue resolution.
· Ensure effective communication between internal teams and external stakeholders.
Team Support & Coordination
· Support and mentor junior engineers.
· Coordinate technical activities within small teams or externally via work packages.
· Support management of contract engineers where required.
Project Delivery
· Support programme timing, planning, and technical risk management.
· Ensure engineering deliverables meet required standards and deadlines.
· Contribute to process improvement and engineering best practice development.
What We're Looking For:
· Engineering degree or equivalent qualification/experience
· Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional registration (desirable)
· Typically 5+ years’ relevant experience
· Extensive competency in Siemens NX or CATIA
· Good understanding of ANSYS, HyperWorks, or Siemens Simcenter
· Strong experience with engineering drawings, GD&T, hand calculations, engineering specifications and supplier liaison
· Experience supporting or guiding junior engineers
· Strong understanding and practical application of engineering fundamentals
· Ability to make sound technical decisions with appropriate validation
· Ability to lead small teams or technical workstreams
· Ability to prioritise effectively across multiple activities
